Alex was confused, more than usual. Once at home, he headed to the bathroom for another shower. While he was under the water, he let his thoughts run free and tried not to freak out when Ben entered his mind. In all those years, he had tried to delete that memory, or at least ignore it. He was fifteen, chubby—fat—and shy. Ben was two years older than him and he lived nearby. During that summer, Ben showed a true interest in becoming friends with Alex, and Alex couldn’t believe someone that older and cool could find him interesting enough to talk to. Sometimes they played in the garden, sometimes they watched TV on the couch, and sometimes they even went fishing together. Alex was a shy boy and he felt so lucky to have Ben as a friend. Alex was so happy for the first time in a long time.
