Chapter 19: The Moral Compass

275 Words
"After the meeting with the President, Leo and Maya were taken to a luxurious suite in the heart of the capital. But instead of celebrating, they felt more trapped than ever. Guards stood at every door, and the air hummed with the sound of surveillance drones. It became clear that they weren't guests; they were being kept until they agreed to hand over the 'Star-Core' formulas for military use. 'We have to get out of here, Leo,' Maya whispered, looking out at the city lights. 'If the government takes control of this technology, they will use it to power weapons and monitor every citizen. It’s the exact opposite of what your grandfather wanted.' Leo looked at the ancient lens, which was pulsing with a rhythmic, golden light. He knew Maya was right. The light was meant to be free, like the stars themselves. Later that night, a young scientist who worked for the government snuck into their room. 'I've seen your research, Leo,' he said quickly. 'It's beautiful. I don't want to see it turned into a weapon. There’s a secret exit through the old subway tunnels.' Leo had to make a choice: stay and try to change the system from the inside, risking his discovery being stolen, or become a fugitive to protect the truth. 'We leave,' Leo said firmly. He realized that sometimes, to save the world, you have to work from the shadows. They grabbed their bags and followed the scientist into the dark, cold tunnels beneath the glittering city. The path ahead was dangerous, but for the first time in days, Leo felt his moral compass pointing in the right direction."
