My pulse hadn’t slowed since Dustin snapped that man’s wrist like a twig.
I should have been terrified.
I should have wanted to run.
But instead, I was still sitting here, in a room filled with men who played god, with women who thrived as their toy like it was normal.
And then there was Dustin.
Silent. Unshaken. Stealing glances at me like I was already his.
I forced myself to breathe, my fingers tightening around the half-empty glass in front of me. I needed to get out of here, away from these people, away from him. As if reading my mind, Dustin suddenly stood. He adjusted his cuffs, finishing off the last of his drink before glancing down at me.
“Come.”
It wasn’t a request.
I hesitated. “Where—”
A single look shut me up.
Heart pounding, I pushed my chair back and followed, very aware of the way the room watched us. We moved through the estate, down a dim hallway that pulsed with low music, past doors where muffled voices and moans leaked through. My stomach twisted. What kind of place was this?
Dustin didn’t answer my unspoken question. He led me deeper, past velvet drapes and soft candlelight, until we stepped into another part of the house—somewhere darker, rawer.
My throat dried.
There were people. So many people.
Not drinking. Not talking. But f*****g. Everywhere.
Bodies tangled against walls, sprawled across velvet couches. Hands, mouths, bare skin. The air was thick with the scent of sweat, s*x, and power.
I froze.
A sick sort of realization crawled up my spine, sinking deep into my chest.
I turned to Dustin, pulse hammering. “What is this?”
He leaned down, close enough that his breath brushed my lips. His voice was low, dark, a lustful promise.
“Your future, sweetheart.”
My stomach plummeted.
Before I could move, react, run, Dustin was already stepping away, weaving through the dimly lit space with the same easy dominance he carried everywhere. I should have left. I should have turned around and disappeared.
But I didn’t.
I couldn’t.
I watched.
Because I didn’t know how not to.
Dustin’s pace was unhurried as he approached a woman draped across a sleek leather chair.
Tall. Stunning. Made of curves. She looked up, her lips curling into something sultry, familiar.
“Dustin.”
“Elena,” he greeted smoothly.
My stomach twisted. Elena.
I knew that name.
The ex.
The one who had been in his bed, in his world, in his life.
And she still was.
Because before I could process what was happening, she stood and ran her fingers down his chest; possessive, eager.
My nails bit into my palms.
She leaned in, murmuring something against his jaw, and Dustin didn’t stop her.
Instead, he smirked. And then he let her drop to her knees.
I forgot how to breathe.
Because Elena knelt in front of him like it was routine. Like she had done this a thousand times before.
She worked the buckle of his belt with slow precision, her head tilting as she looked up at him through dark lashes.
Waiting. Wanting.
Dustin didn’t look at her.
He looked at me.
I couldn’t move.
I couldn’t f*****g move.
Because this wasn’t just a show.
It wasn’t just s*x.
This was a message.
A warning.
A promise.
He was showing me exactly what he planned to do to me. Exactly what would happen when he finally decided to take me.
My heart slammed against my ribs. I should have turned away, should have shut my eyes, but I was locked in place.
Frozen. Burning. Falling.
Dustin unbuttoned his dress shirt, his expression still unreadable as he shrugged it off.
Elena’s hands smoothed up his stomach, eager, waiting for permission. He gave it with a single look.
And then—she started.
I sucked in a sharp breath.
I felt it everywhere; soft buckled veins stiffened in her palm. Hard and raw, directed towards the only opening it could find. The slow drag of her mouth. The way his muscles tensed just slightly under her touch. The way he kept his eyes on me.
Not her. Me.
And I was so f*****g weak.
Because I didn’t run.
I didn’t try.
I just stood there, trembling, hating him, hating myself, hating the way my skin burned with something I didn’t understand; a need.
Dustin exhaled slowly, lazily, arrogantly, his grin deepening as he watched me lustfully fall apart.
“Urghh.” He moaned.
He was doing this for me. To break me. To make sure I understood what he was capable of. He lifted a hand, running it through Elena’s hair, gripping just slightly as he pulled her closer, head thrown back, hips moving slowly, then vigorously while soft pants escaped his lips.
She moaned.
And for some reason, I felt it like a punch to the gut. I salivated. My eyes never left his lustful ones, as I searched for whatever this meant. And then, just when I thought I couldn’t take anymore, Dustin tilted his head, never looking away from me, and spoke.
“Jealous, sweetheart?”
I snapped.
My legs finally moved, my hands shaking, my chest heaving, my throat burning as I turned and walked.
Fast. Faster.
I didn’t care where.
I just needed to get the f**k out!
But before I could make it three steps, a hand gripped my wrist. It felt soft yet tight and unforgiving. My breath choked in my throat. I turned sharply, wild and furious and desperate to escape but Dustin was right there.
No shirt. No remorse.
Just a satisfied smirk and a grip that wouldn’t let go, as he let his other hand find its way down, trailing the slit of my dress until it rested closely between m y thighs, threatening while he breathed in my ears, warm, flushed, and hot.
I shoved at his chest. “Let me go.” I said, unconvinced. A ploy to remind myself who I actually was to this prick. But his fingers tightened.
“No.” He said in a whisper.
I sucked in a breath. “You’re disgusting.”
His smirk only grew. “Then why are you shaking?”
I hated him.
I hated that he was right.
His grip shifted, fingers brushing my pulse point. Feeling how fast it raced.
He leaned in.
Dark. Dominant. Unstoppable.
“Run all you want, sweetheart.” His voice was pure evil.
“I’ll still have you in the end. And when I do, it’ll be in an open space like this, with you holding me down, thighs tightening to my thrust as you beg for more. You’ll be mine.”
While he spoke, I felt a wet trail race down my thigh and knew those words were true.
