Chapter 1:Demise

“Well, I guess that’s the last of them.” Eren pointed her gun and emptied it at the target. She watched her companions run up to her. She smiles at them. This will be their last mission; the last time they’ll take lives. Feeling nostalgic, she suddenly remembers the first time she was given a mission and her first time meeting her two partners: Rin and Usami. Eren was already an orphan back then when Rin and Usami were introduced to her. They had just lost their families to an accident. Thanks to the interference of the organization, their lives were saved but at the cost of their freedom. Their lives then belonged to the organization. But now…. “Yup, this is our final mission.” Rin concurs, retrieving her knife. “And we have fully paid our debt to them. We’re free now.” Usami added, placing an arm over Rin’s shoulder, grinning. Eren felt scratching on his leg. She looks down to see her furry partner, sitting beside her. She pats her Belgian malinois, clasping the leash on the dog’s collar. “You’re such a good girl, Sakura. Well done.” She praised the dog, to which the dog barked in return, vocalizing and expressing her joy. “What’s wrong, Rin?” The oldest of the three returned her attention to her two human partners when she heard Usami ask Rin the question. Rin didn’t answer yet and looked around before facing her friends. “Don’t you think it’s a little strange that they would just let go of their most prized pawn without any dispute? Shouldn’t they be worried we might use whatever information we have against them?” Rin pointed out, shaking her head. “I don’t think so. Something feels off about this.” Usami thought for a bit and agreed. “She’s right; the organization wasn’t so reluctant about letting us go.” Worry crept into Eren. She narrows her eyes. That is true; they know a lot of things. Shouldn’t they be taking precautions to assure that she and her friends wouldn't spill anything that would compromise the organization and to keep their mouths shut— Wait. Keep our mouths shut… They wouldn’t…. Their eyes widened at the realization as they exchanged a knowing look. They would. Deep down, they knew the organization would do anything to make sure no one would ever get in their way. “We need to get out of here—” Usami couldn’t finish her sentence as the building the trio were in suddenly exploded. It’s true they were being let go, just not alive. A lot of things they regretted, but what they regretted the most was never being able to live their lives as they wanted. Would it be too selfish of them to ask for another chance? If given a chance, this time, they would live for themselves and not anybody else. I wish…. They wished for a second chance. They wished for a new life to start anew. They made that desperate and hopeless wish as their bodies burned into ashes.
