Chapter 4 It was a long chilly night. Race lay awake for hours, breathing in the cold piny air and listening to the murmurs of his mother and sister; the hoots and calls of unfamiliar night birds, the chirrings of familiar bugs, and the sound of the stream filling the night air with moisture. The ground was hard and rough under his blankets. He tossed and turned. Could he really, after all, develop full Starling powers? Who ever heard of a human becoming a Starling, outside of a fairy story? Just what powers were these? Starlings could fly through the air — everybody knew that. They could move other things with the power of their minds, size no limit. Mountains definitely, planets most likely.
