Evie’s POV
Sitting on a chair outside of Headmaster’s office. I sat waiting for Headmaster Grimwood to signal me in. Voices coming from inside the office can be heard clearly, with the help of the empty hallway projecting everything being said. From my understanding I can tell that the conversation is about me.
THIRD PERSON POV
(IN THE HEADMASTERS OFFICE)
“That girl is building a record faster than my hair falling out” Mr Black stressed, gesturing to his half bald head to emphasise his point.
“Yes Mr Black, I understand your concerns. However she is a valuable student” Headmaster Grimwood muttered with ease not looking up from his papers in his hands.
“She is tarnishing this school’s reputation” Mr Black spat out, pacing up and down in front of the dark oak desk.
“She has higher grades than anyone in this school, she sets a good example to the exceptional education that is being provided at this school” Headmaster Grimwood stated in a stern tone, looking up at Mr Black, he sent a look suggesting Mr Black to watch his tone.
“I fear that she will be too much to handle for the new Headmistress” Mr Black worried, stopping his pacing and started rubbing the bridge of his nose under his spectacles.
Not happy with Mr Black’s behaviour or what he was saying, Headmaster Grimwood dropped the papers from his hand and stood up to show Mr Black’s just how serious he was. Mr Black noting the sudden shift in Grimwoods posture stood stiff.
“Mr Black, I just want to set straight that Headmistress Stella will only be concerned about her own students and I mine, therefore Miss Evie will only be my concern. Unless she has trouble with the new students which I doubt she would even go near them, then the Headmistress will be involved” Grimwood declared, his tone suggesting Mr Black to not disagree with him.
“Yes Grimwood” Mr Black sighed, Mr Black turned to leaved. Not happy with the discussion.
Mr Black opened the door leading outside of the office, leaving Grimwood to dropped to his chair out of distress.
Evie’s POV
(IN THE HALWAY)
From where I was sitting out in the hallway across from the office doors, I saw Mr Black coming through with a sullen expression. Mr Black sent a look both angry and dismissive at me, Mr Black has been trying to get me kick out since my second year attending this school. He argued more passionately about it than the debate team arguing about the environmental issues.
With Mr Black walking down the hallway out of view the hallway became quiet once more, my nerves started to creep up again having no noises to distract me. I sat there for several seconds before hearing Headmaster Grimwood call my name, I stood from my seat making way to doors. Placing my hand on the door, my flight or fight reflexes heightened undecided if I should just run for the hills or face whatever is waiting for me. I decided on the later.
Entering the all too familiar room the smell hit me hard, the smell of old books, ink from the little pot he has sitting on his desk and the smell of men’s cologne filled the room. Headmaster Grimwood was sitting on his grand chair behind his desk, doing what appears to be signing papers. The room itself was grand, dark wooden floors covered by a dark red rug with gold designs, two walls was filled with shelves home to books and trinkets, the wall behind the Headmaster had a circular window, overlooking the schools front courtyard.
Being brought in to his office felt like routine now, sometimes good, for example, he would phase my work, but often bad, from me getting in trouble. Taking a breath to calm my nerves, I closed the door. Crossing the room I sat in one of the chairs in front of Headmaster Grimwood’s desk, Headmaster Grimwood still hadn’t spoke or made the effort to look up from his papers.
Sitting in a tense silence I awaited for Headmaster to speak. Another part of the routine when one goes to the Headmaster’s office is “don’t speak unless you’re spoken too”, speaking out of turn will only dig you deeper into a hole.
“Miss Thorne, the school year haven’t even started and your in my office from attacking another student” Grimwood stated filling the silence, Grimwood neatly piled papers to the side of him finally paying full attention to me.
I sat silently with my hands in my lap not talking just yet, when Headmaster openly asks me a question, than I will speak.
“Not only did you cause a commotion, you behaved in a ill manner towards your fellow peer” Headmaster Grimwood said in a stern tone, Grimwood leaned his body forward creating a intense form of eye contact.
“What do you have to say for yourself?” Grimwood question with a raised eyebrow.
“I was defending myself, Florence struck me first.” I spoke in a calm tone, I know by now getting hostile, especially with the headmaster, will do no one any good. “Ask any one that was in the courtyard, they all witnessed it.”
“The teaches have spoken to a few students and they all claim that you started it, said you provoked Whitmore” Grimwood recalled.
“They’re lying!” I snapped my anger boiling all over again. “Who did they ask? Because they all saw what happened”
“Evie, this situation is not in your favour, that is why you will be serving two weeks of detention” Grimwood grunted in disapproval.
I can only manage a screech of anger, unhappy with the obvious favouritism.
“Of course I will be the one punished and they get to walk free” I exclaimed, standing from my seat. I stormed out of the room without sparing a glance at Headmaster Grimwood.
