Chapter Five

875 Words
Evie’s POV After dropping my things off and grabbing Annie, we made our way down to the cafeteria for dinner. On the way we join in the little traffic of girls who was leaving at the same time, I can sense some looks my way but I just kept my head forward and walked like it didn’t affect me. I can feel Annie sending looks too, probably wandering why so many girls are looking our way, but I ignored her as well. Arriving at the cafeteria, I noticed that it had some renovations done. The tall windows been tinted, it looks bigger somehow, maybe they extended the room to fit all the additional cafeteria tables. Another renovation is the ceiling lights, instead of the familiar cool toned long lights, it was warm tone circular lights in its place. Making my way to get in line for food with Annie following me, taking a spot in the back of the line I grabbed a metal tray. Waiting for the line to move forward, I faced Annie to check that she is still there and to let her know of my plans to sit with Stephen. “Hey, just giving you a heads up, I had plans to sit with this guy Stephen, but his pretty chill. He won’t mind you joining us” I confessed. “Are you okay with that?” I questioned worriedly. “Uh, okay sure” Annie insisted, I can tell she was a little unsure but I didn’t know how to make her feel better, when we sit down and get comfortable she will feel better. “Great!” I hummed, with the line moving quicker I faced forward, now paying attention to the food that is offered, I can smell different foods but the most prominent smell for me was the carbonara pasta. Moving along the Bain-Marie I grabbed some fries, a spoon full of chicken carbonara, a chocolate cupcake, lastly a carton of orange juice. While I was waiting for Annie to finish up I scanned the cafeteria looking for Stephen, spotting him at a table with two other boys, I took a mental note where to go. Scanning the space again I noticed Florence and her little piggies. Florence and her crew were sitting at a table in the middle of the room, taking notice of Florence’s state, I saw a little cut on her upper lip and a bruised on her cheek bone in the early stages of forming. Looking back for Annie, she just had to pick out a drink and then she was done. When Annie joined my side again I started to lead the way to where we will be sitting, navigating through tables the sound of chatter was more louder. The closer we got the more giddy I felt, excited to be spending dinner with Stephen, I wonder if Stephen is looking to it like I am. Arriving at the table Stephen offered us a smile. “Hey, glad you can make it” Stephen greeted. “Hey, yeah was wondering if you have any more information on the vampires” I replied while sitting down next to Stephen. “Also I invited my roommate Annie”. Gesturing for Annie to take the seat next to me, once seated and comfortable I started to eat. “Hello, I’m Stephen, happy you can join us” Stephen offered to Annie, that’s what I liked about Stephen, his friendly nature to others. “Nice to meet you, hope I’m not intruding.” Annie spoke up, still uneasy being surrounded by new people. “Not at all, let’s start with introductions” Stephen waved off her worry’s. “This is my good mate William Heart.” Stephen informed Annie gesturing to the guy with black hair and light curls, William offered a smile and a nod of acknowledgement to Annie. “And this is my other mate Harry Burt” Stephen gestured to the remaining boy with light brown straight hair. “Nice to meet you Annie.” Harry greeted in a shy manner. Annie appeared more brighter now that she was welcomed warmly to the table. The table settled in a comfortable silence, with the sound of the loud chatter coming from our peers and the sound of cutlery clicking. “So, what do you want to know about the vampires?” Stephen questioned settling his utensils down, I looked up with raised eyebrows interested in what more he knew. “Whatever you know.” I gleamed with curiosity. On the side of me Annie looked around in surprise, previously oblivious to the news. Harry and William shared a quick look to each other, also intrigued to know about the incoming vampires. “How long till they come?” I enquired, Stephen finished drinking and set his cup down, sent a smirk my way with both his eyes shining with excitement, slapping his hands against the table. “They will be here monday next week, mum said the headmaster will announce the news during Friday’s assembly” Stephen shared to the table, Annie reacted by letting out a gasp, Harry and William eyes popped out from their heads, and I was still from shock.
