Lina Carter had never believed in monsters.
At least, not until that night.
The huge creature stepped out of the shadows slowly, its glowing golden eyes fixed directly on her. The moonlight revealed its massive body covered in dark gray fur, muscles rippling beneath its thick coat. Its claws dug into the dirt as it moved closer, and its sharp teeth glistened as it let out a low, threatening growl.
Lina’s entire body froze.
Her mind screamed at her to run, but her legs refused to move.
“This… this can’t be real,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
The creature tilted its head slightly, almost as if it understood her fear. Its glowing eyes never left her face.
Another growl rumbled from deep in its chest.
That was enough to break Lina’s paralysis.
She turned and ran.
Her footsteps pounded against the empty pathway as panic surged through her veins. Her breathing became ragged as she sprinted away from the forest.
Behind her, she heard it.
Heavy footsteps.
Fast.
Too fast.
The creature was chasing her.
Lina’s heart raced wildly as she pushed herself harder, but she knew she couldn’t outrun something that big.
Suddenly, a deep voice shouted from somewhere ahead.
“Stop running!”
Lina didn’t listen.
Why would she stop when something was trying to kill her?
“Lina!”
She froze instantly.
Her name.
How did he know her name?
She turned around slowly, her chest rising and falling as she struggled to catch her breath.
A tall boy stood a few feet away from her.
He looked around her age, maybe in his early twenties. His dark hair was slightly messy, and his sharp features were illuminated by the pale moonlight. But what caught Lina’s attention the most were his eyes.
They were silver.
Not gray.
Not blue.
Silver.
And they were glowing faintly.
“Who… who are you?” Lina asked, stepping back nervously.
The boy didn’t answer immediately. Instead, his gaze shifted toward the forest behind her.
The growling sound grew louder.
His expression hardened.
“You shouldn’t be out here,” he said calmly.
Lina let out a small laugh of disbelief.
“Oh really? I noticed that when a giant wolf started chasing me!”
The boy ignored her sarcasm.
“You need to leave. Now.”
“What about you?”
He looked back at her, his silver eyes serious.
“I’ll handle it.”
Lina frowned.
Handle it?
Before she could ask what he meant, the huge creature burst out of the forest.
The ground shook beneath its weight as it landed on the pathway. Its golden eyes burned with fury as it stared at the boy standing in front of Lina.
The boy sighed.
“You really had to come this far,” he muttered under his breath.
Lina grabbed his arm in panic.
“We need to run!”
But the boy didn’t move.
Instead, he gently pulled his arm away.
“Go back to your hostel,” he said quietly.
Lina stared at him like he had lost his mind.
“That thing will kill you!”
The boy’s lips curved into a small, confident smile.
“I doubt that.”
The creature roared and lunged toward them.
What happened next made Lina’s entire world shatter.
The boy stepped forward calmly.
Then his body began to change.
Lina gasped as she heard bones cracking.
His shoulders broadened.
His hands twisted as long claws pushed through his skin. Dark fur spread across his arms and face as his body grew larger and stronger.
Within seconds, the boy was gone.
Standing in his place was an enormous wolf.
But unlike the other creature, this wolf had silver eyes that glowed brightly under the moonlight.
Lina stumbled backward in shock.
“No… no way…”
The silver-eyed wolf growled deeply, stepping in front of her protectively.
The other creature snarled and charged forward.
The two wolves collided violently, their massive bodies crashing into each other with terrifying force. Claws slashed through the air as they fought fiercely, their growls echoing through the silent night.
Lina’s heart pounded wildly.
She couldn’t move.
She couldn’t think.
All she could do was watch the impossible battle happening in front of her.
One thing became painfully clear in that moment.
The boy with the silver eyes was not human.
He was a werewolf.
And somehow…
He was protecting her.
