The question floated lazily across the booth, disappearing beneath the low hum of jazz and expensive conversations. I rolled the amber liquid around in my glass before taking another slow sip. The whiskey burned pleasantly. Across from me, Cyrus leaned back into the leather booth, one ankle resting over the opposite knee as he studied me over the rim of his gin and tonic. His black hair had long since disappeared beneath silver dye, making the thin black frames of his glasses stand out even more.
