Later that evening, I stood in front of my mirror, adjusting the straps of the long blue gown I’d picked out. It glittered just enough under the light. I didn’t wear things like this often anymore—dresses that screamed elegance, effort, intention. But tonight called for it.
Or maybe I just wanted to remind myself of who I am now..A sophisticated lady .
Just as I stepped in, I found Mom... She looked at me and her brows furrowed.
"Going somewhere?" She asked, scrutinizing my dress.
"Yes.. There's somewhere I have to be!!"
"you have a date and just didn’t think to tell me?”
I smiled faintly. “No, it’s not a date. I’m just meeting someone for dinner. I won’t be long.”
She arched an eyebrow. “You don’t dress like that unless there’s something special going on.”
