Williams Harold Rodriguez settled into his plush office chair, cradling his morning coffee as he gazed out the window. With a calm, collected demeanor, he opened his laptop and began to sift through his email inbox, meticulously reviewing the week's tasks and priorities. The soft hum of the computer and the gentle aroma of freshly brewed coffee which filled the air was one of his favorite morning routine. As he sipped his coffee, he couldn't help but remember the lady of yesterday. The mere thought of her had brought smiles on his face, blush even. He recalled how stunning she'd looked in that dress while getting herself drunk. The sadness in her eyes was what he noticed about her once he had introduced himself. It didn't get past him, but he wasn't one to ask what was wrong cause you never can tell if one wanted to share. But she'd shared anyways. But that hadn't been the first time he had meet her. No... He'd met her on the night of her wedding. He remembered it right. She had been outside, probably catching a fresh breeze when he seen her. She was a tall woman wearing a lavender skirt and a green blouse. The sleeves of the blouse were rolled up. It was midsummer and definitely a warm day. She wasn't just pretty. To his eyes she was exquisite. Young, probably in her early twenties. Black bangs curved towards her temples, a narrow, beautiful face and dimples when she smiled. And she was buxom. He'd thought that curves like that usually only showed up in his more pleasant dreams. And when he approached her, he couldn't seem to blink. Her dark emerald green eyes and her face.... Gosh! His eyes had deceived him. She was much prettier up close. "If you keep staring like that without saying anything, you'd make the girl uncomfortable." Her voice hadn't helped matters but at least it brought him back to his senses. And when his eyes went back to her face, there was those adorable dimples again. His body wouldn't calm down. "I'm so sorry..." "I'm Kaia Reyes. Well, Reyes for just tonight." Her smile was beautiful!. "Kaia... I'm Harold, wait .. You are the bride?" With a smile on her face, she had said "Yes I am." But before Harold could say anything, someone had called her attention and he watched as she walked away. "Ain't that always the way? The good ones are already taken." Williams couldn't believe how he had let that memory of her sneak into his head again. Once she was gone, it took days and a good bout of drinking to get her out of his mind. But only briefly. If he was being honest, she had always been somewhere in his thoughts more often than not. It seemed that knowing he couldn't have her because she was already someone else's made him want her even more. He had always wondered what it was about Kaia Reyes that had twisted him inside out. No woman had ever affected him like that before, nor stayed in his thoughts this long. A pretty thing. And then seeing her again after all these years had those memories flooding back. She didn't remember him, and Williams thought it was better that way. She had mentioned about being single soon and how her husband had married her as a rebound. Williams couldn't help but worry for her, and if anything.. he wished he'd see her again, this time as a single lady. ___________ KAIA REYES POV I was sitting on the single couch in the sitting room, reading a novel while sipping my glass of red wine when the door opened. It was.. well, Caleb Jenson - my husband. I had heard him drove in but he hadn't come in immediately, he'd stayed out about 4 minutes more before he finally opened the door. "Welcome home." I greeted him, he hadn't seen me till he heard my voice. He stood by the doorway, staring at me. I was still on my nightwear, the one that was most revealing. "Good Morning." He said, walking towards me. "Breakfast?" I was standing now, dropping the novel I was reading and with my glass, started walking to the dinning. I heard him muttered "sure" before following me. I served his food and watched him start eating. I was sitting, sipping my drink and I could feel how uncomfortable he was. He was .. well, taking his time. "How is she?" He choked at my question, but I didn't react. I refuse to, so I watched him pour himself water and drank it. "Who? Alessia? She's fine. Why do you ask?" I shrugged my shoulder and sip my drink. His eyes were now on me, he was searching for answers on my face. One I could tell he couldn't find. "I was at her show yesternight. She's hot and dance very beautifully too, don't you agree?" He'd been surprised. Or shocked? Whatever it was, it left his mouth open. "Kaia...." He started, but I wasn't interested in what he had to say. "Listen to me.." but I'd cut him short by passing him an envelope. He looked at me, with that same eye that'd make me want all of him. The one I couldn't resist, but not today. I looked away. Afraid I might change my mind. This has to be done. I have to be done! "What is this Kaia?" "Open it.." I was back to drinking now, but I didn't stop till my glass was empty. "Divorce Papers? Are you insane Kaia Reyes?!" I smiled sweetly at Caleb, feeling a sense of liberation wash over me. "You'd know if you divorce me, you'll be leaving here with nothing. You hear me? Nothing Kaia. C'mon, don't be emotional and make stupid decisions... Alessia had promised to cut you some slack.. she.." He trailed off, expecting me to cower, but I just laughed. "That," I said, my voice dripping with amusement. "That right there, Caleb... You two deserve each other." I glanced at him with disdain, disgusted by the man I'd been married to "And don't worry about how I'd cope. I never needed your money anyway." "Now, husband, if you'd excuse me , I need to change as my ride has just arrived." I stood up, my chair scraping against the floor. My eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, we just stared at each other. Then, without a word, I pulled out the wedding ring he had placed on my finger all these years ago. I dropped it on the dining table, the metal hitting the wood with a loud clang. It spun around in a circle, coming to rest in front of him, a stark reminder of the end of our marriage. I turned and walked away, leaving him alone there and wondering on my own, if I'd done what was best.
