Chapter 22: His decision

I got back to work after a while before Romeo got annoyed.

I was tidying the living room when a dominant male wolf came over to me.

I had heard the Luna call him Caleb, so that must be his name. He was as handsome as all the wolves, with rippling muscles, dark blue eyes and light brown hair.

I was cleaning the table when he came and stood behind me so close his crotch was against my a.ss.

I stood up, and he whispered into my ear, “you missed a spot.”

He pointed at the other end of the table, so I leaned over and wiped it. I was stupidly naive, he pressed himself more firmly against my a.ss and holding my hips, he humped me, making the others laugh.

I stood up embarrassed, but he grabbed the back of my head and pushed me back down on the table. “Stay there.” He humped me harder, laughing along with everyone else, then he pulled me up and said, “you haven’t cleaned everything.”

I didn’t understand until I looked down to see him undoing his jeans.

He didn’t get further than that because Jax came over and snarled, “what the f***k do you think you’re doing?”

Caleb looked at him confused. “She’s one of the submissive wolves, I just want her to help me get off.”

Jax lost it, he grabbed him by the throat and pinned him against the wall snarling, “you f.ucking touch her you die, I will tear your f.ucking insides apart and make you watch. Do you understand?”

Caleb looked terrified and nodded quickly. “Yeah, I’m sorry, I won’t touch her, I swear.”

Jax let him go and started walking away, I watched as he thought about it and turning back to Caleb, he punched him in the face so hard he collapsed to the floor. “Just in case my words weren’t enough,” Jax said, and walking past me, he grabbed my wrist, forcing me to go with him.

“If you’re going to clean anywhere, just stick to the kitchen, ok,” Jax said.

“But your dad—” he cut me off,

“don’t worry about him, I’ll talk to him.”

I nodded and Jax didn’t leave my side until it was time for sleep.

Fenris was always one for privacy, I had never seen his bedroom door open before, so when it was time for bed and I walked past to see it open I couldn’t help but feel he’d done it deliberately, he wanted me to see.

I casually glanced over to his room, surprised to see it open, and then I blushed hotly when I saw him in bed with cherry lemonade wolf, she was on top of him riding him.

He didn’t look out to me, but I swear he caught my scent and knew I’d seen them because he started pounding into her harder and faster.

He didn’t need to go to all these lengths to let me know he wasn’t interested in me, I knew he wasn’t. Seeing them was painful though and my heart ached, the wolf in me ran to bed and cried for her mate.

I must have cried myself to sleep because when I woke up it was morning. I got up to put on my usual attire of sweatpants, but Annie had slept in my room, she grabbed my arm as I reached out for the gray sweatpants and mumbled sleepily, “don’t you f.ucking dare.”

She had used an air mattress to sleep on, and slowly she sat up. “But I—” she cut me off, “don’t Rose, you wear those clothes I bought you from now on, you have all three of my brothers to seduce if you want them as your mate, and wearing sweatpants is not going to do that.”

She made me put on black tights, a black cotton material pencil skirt that clung to me nicely but was also stretchy, so it would still be comfortable to clean in, then she made me put on a red low cut blouse tucked into the skirt, and some simple black flat heeled shoes.

She did my makeup for me again, pretty much the same as she’d done it yesterday, and my hair was still curly and bouncy, so I only needed to touch it up really.

“Now you can leave,” she said and collapsed back onto the mattress.

I didn’t feel brave enough to wear this, but I wasn’t brave enough to test Annie’s wrath either, so I took a deep breath and forced myself out of my room.

I was doing breakfast and was almost done after two hours when Jax came up behind me and held my hips. “Mm, you keep dressing up I’m going to think you’re trying to tempt me into accepting you as my mate,” he teased.

“Pfft, you’d be lucky if I accept you!” I retorted playfully.

He grinned, kissed my cheek and whispered, “I would indeed.”

I blushed at his words and wondered if maybe Jax might be coming around to the idea of accepting me, probably not, but it was nice to think so, you really never could tell with him.

I was so busy stupidly daydreaming that he threw me off guard when he grabbed me in a headlock and ruffled my hair roughly.

I struggled to break free, but it was pointless, and I didn’t know whether he was so good because he was a dominant and strong alpha wolf, or if it was a more creepy reason like he was scarily good at subduing his victims.

I reached up and grabbed some of the foamy bubbles from the sink and wiped them on his face.

He tried to wipe his face on his arm, and with me struggling so much, we went crashing to the floor in a tumbled heap.

So much for my makeup, I probably looked stupid now, but I didn’t care as I got up and tried to tickle him, big mistake because it meant he tickled me back, and I was clearly way more ticklish. I laughed, cried, screamed and when it probably looked like I was going to pass out from lack of air, he finally let me go.

He was leaning above me laughing and all I could think about was how much I wanted to kiss him.

Romulus walked in and saw us on the floor while Fenris was talking to him about pack rules I think.

Fenris noticed us last, but he neither showed any emotion nor said anything.

Romulus held a hand out to me, and I looked at it warily, wondering if it was a trick and he’d let go and watch me fall back. He saw my look and said, “come on, love, take my hand.”

I took it, and he helped me to my feet, he kissed the back of my hand before letting go and I had to try hard to control the surprise on my face by his sudden show of affection.

Jax got to his feet when Romulus said, “you two already act like a couple, I’m guessing you’ll be accepting her, and she’ll be accepting you when it comes time.” He said it casually enough, and yet there was a hint of anger in his voice.

Jax shrugged, “maybe, I still don’t know what I want.”

Walking past me, he pushed all my hair over the top of my head and into my face making me splutter while he walked off laughing.

I rolled my eyes and again was surprised when Romulus gently smoothed my hair back into place for me. He held my face between his hands and as if realizing what he was doing he quickly dropped them, mumbled something unintelligible and quickly walked off.

Fenris had gone ages ago.

Nothing else really happened until two days later, when Romeo called me in to his office.

I walked in nervously and was surprised to see Fenris already in there. I sat down and waited to see what was wrong. “I know you still have some time before making your decisions about who to accept as your mate, but Rose, Fenris has already given me his answer.”

My heart sank, I shouldn’t have been surprised really, and so I prepared myself to hear his rejection. Romeo carried on, “Fenris wishes to accept you as his mate if you’ll have him.”

I couldn’t stop myself from turning to look at Fenris stunned, he simply looked back at me with that cool look, so I couldn’t figure out what was going on in his head.

“It’s ultimately your decision, you can choose to reject him, but hopefully, you’ll give him a chance.”

I found myself surprisingly nodding my head and saying, “yes, I’ll accept him as my mate.”

Romeo looked happy about this, and standing up, said, “ok, go with Fenris into the forest as is tradition, and you’ll accept one another officially there. Fenris knows the rules and how it works, so he’ll guide you through it.”

Was this really happening? I really never in a million years thought Fenris of all the brothers would want to accept me, but we got up and together started walking into the forest.

We were halfway in when he gently laced his fingers through mine and held my hand.

When I looked at him, he kept his head down to the floor when he said, “it’s a smart move for the pack, dad seems to agree with your idea that it would make us appear stronger.”

Oh, that made more sense that he was only doing it for business, but he more quietly added, “also, I do like you, I don’t like many people, but you’re sweet and kind, and I think I’d enjoy looking after you. As an omega, all I sense is how much protecting you need, the wolf in me craves that. I need someone I can be protective of, and I can’t really do that as much as I want to with a more dominant female.”

I smiled at him and he glanced at me before quickly looking away again. “I’m not the best at relationships, I’ve never really had a proper girlfriend before as I’ve never wanted to settle with anyone long term, I’m sure Jax has explained I’m not exactly the loving and cuddly affectionate kind of wolf.”

When I nodded, he gave a smile of his own, and damn was he even more beautiful when he smiled.

“I’ll try to be for you, and if I’m not, you need to tell me.” I nodded and he stopped to look at me. “I understand if you get angry at this, but for right now I’d like to keep us a secret, I know everyone will know by our scent that we’ve accepted one another as mates, but I’d rather them think it’s just for business right now and keep the relationship and intimate side of things just between me and you.”

I quietly asked, “because you’re embarrassed of me?”

“It’s complicated, I’m not ready to deal with all the attention it will bring, and yes, I admit as an alpha wolf being mated to an omega, it’s certainly going to draw attention, and I’ve never been with such a…submissive wolf.” I knew he was going to say a weak wolf before correcting himself, but strangely I somewhat understood where he was coming from.

The pack world was all about violence and who was the most dominant, and I’d also learned it was the same with a female wolf too, the most dominant males would choose the most dominant female to mate with, they’d even fight over her.

When we were far enough in the woods, Fenris stopped us and turned to face me. It was time.
