Chapter 37: The ex

Jax came up after a few hours and actually knocked the door. Me and Fenris were in the middle of playing a video game together when he came in. Jax jumped in between us and asked, “what you playing?” I knew he had jumped between us because he didn’t like seeing me cosied up with Fenris alone. “It’s dark souls,” Fenris muttered, busy concentrating on the game. “That’s a good game, though you game a little too much bro.” Fenris ignored him, so I kissed Jax’s cheek. He grinned at me and asked, “you miss me, darling?” I nodded, and he said, “I missed you too.” To Fenris he said, “can I spend some time with her?” “Don’t ask me, ask her.” Jax looked at me and I said, “yes, just let me get to the next check point.” He sighed and dropped his head onto the bed dramatically, making me laugh. We turned it off when I got to the check point as promised and Jax groaned, “finally, f.ucking hell, you may as well have completed the whole f.ucking game.” “Jax!” I warned. “What?” He spread his hands looking clueless. I grabbed his face and licked the side of it, then got up and ran out of the room with him chasing me. He grabbed me around the waist before I got down the stairs and licked across my mouth, making me splutter and scrub it with my sleeve. “Ewww that’s disgusting! It went in my mouth!” He found it hysterical and said, “I’ve had your tongue all over my face more times than I can count, we are even.” “We are not! I didn’t slobber over your mouth!” I gagged dramatically. Laughing he replied, “I’ve been left with your gross tongue smell on me, no matter how much I’ve washed my face.” “Pfft, my tongue smell is lovely.” He held my shoulders and said, “oh darling, I hate to tell you, but it really isn’t.” I pushed him away a little too hard, and he fell back against the wall. He looked up at me and I crapped myself and started bombing it down the stairs. Romeo was coming out of his room and I humiliatingly crashed into him so hard we both went crashing to the floor. Jax came down the stairs and fell to his knees, laughing so hard he lost his breath. Romulus came through the front door and saw us on the floor, seeing Romeos face, he joined Jax in the laughter. I quickly got to my feet, terrified the alpha would beat me. “Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry!” I tried helping him to his feet, but he batted my hands away and got up on his own. He glared not at me but Jax and snapped, “if you want to run around like f.ucking children, do it outside.” His angry reaction only made Jax laugh more and Romulus slapped his dad on the back and said, “lighten up dad, you should have seen your face.” He started laughing again and Romeo stormed off mumbling to himself angrily. Romulus came to hug me, but Jax grabbed me before he could and pulled me into his arms instead. Romulus looked at Jax and said, “you need to learn to share her more.” “I do, she spent most of the day with Fenris, I’ve only just managed to drag her from his room.” “Maybe, but you definitely are a bit possessive of her.” “No I’m not.” “Jax, every time me or Fenris are with her or cuddling her, you end up jumping between us.” “I’m not letting you ruin my mood,” Jax replied and looking to me said, “come on.” He took my hand and I gave an apologetic look to Romulus. He blew me a kiss before Jax dragged me outside. “Where are we going?” I asked. “You still haven’t seen any places for werewolves to hang out, have you?” “I haven’t seen any places really,” I snorted. “I’ll take you to the blue moon cafe first and then later we can go to the crescent night bar.” He led us over to the car park they had outside the mansion and opened the door to the nice looking black car. “Is this your car?” I asked. He shrugged like it was nothing and said, “yeah, get in.” I got in, and he drove us to the cafe. I watched cars whiz by us and every so often I looked over at Jax and blushed even though he wasn’t even freaking looking at me. He looked hot driving the car, with his eyes on the road, I got to enjoy the view of his muscular arm and big hand on the gear stick, he had that sexy vein thing going on along his arms. I wasn’t the only one who noticed his hotness, every time we stopped at traffic lights other female drivers would be looking in at him. I was expecting some cute little cafe in town or something, but he took me to a beautiful place, this cafe was quite big with beech wood flooring, wooden tables and chairs and even the counter was wooden except for the marble top. The glass windows looked out to the sea and with the sun shining it was a beautiful view. I felt comfortable with Jax knowing he was attracted to personalities over looks so I didn’t feel too self-conscious ordering cake alongside my jacket potato with tuna and a cold soda. When the lady batted her eyes at him and asked what he wanted, he bluntly said, “I’ll just have what she’s having.” She flicked her pretty brown hair and tried to gain his attention, but he was already back to looking at me and grinning. “What?” I asked. “Nothing, it’s just nice having a date with you.” “Oh, this is a date, is it?” I replied sarcastically. “Of course, why would you think it wasn’t?” He asked. “Because I noticed you’re doing the same thing as always, mostly treating me like a friend and keeping a distance, not wanting to show any sort of affection or even sit near me in public.” “I do show you affection you’re being dramatic.” “No you don’t, the only time I receive affection from you is when you want s**x or when no one’s around except your brothers.” I wasn’t saying anything that wasn’t true, twice I’d tried holding his hand and he had moved away from my touch, I had also tried to kiss him, but he’d moved so that I got his cheek instead. I didn’t understand why he was so cold and distant when he didn’t seem to care about his brothers seeing him show affection towards me. Was it because they were my mates too? With everyone else, was he embarrassed to be seen with me? “Really, Rose, you’re going to start now? I wanted to have a nice time but if you’re going to f.ucking ruin it, then we may as well just go.” I blushed hard from embarrassment when people looked over at us, Jax raised his voice drawing attention. “I’m sorry,” I whispered and tried to take his hand and kiss the back of it, but he quickly pulled away from me. “This is what I mean, Jax! I can’t even act like your girlfriend in public. Why?” He didn’t answer, so I got up and walked out. I started walking along the coastline when Jax came running up behind me. He grabbed my shoulder and spun me to face him. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you feel like s.hit and I know you’re right about the whole showing affection, it’s just that—” he cut off short and looked over my shoulder. The look on his face had me praying like hell that he didn’t murder whoever he was looking at. “Wait here,” he told me, I don’t think he realized he had let down his guard so that I felt that alpha energy of his wash over me meaning I couldn’t disobey. I waited like I was told and when a few minutes passed by, I was able to turn around and see where he went off to. I saw him walking back to me with a woman behind him chatting away while he rolled his eyes in annoyance. She finally snapped, “Jax!” He stopped and turned to look at her. She was beautiful with long chocolate brown hair that flowed in soft waves down her back. She had dark brown doe eyes that stood out stunningly against her flawless makeup, her eyes were done in black and gold smoky and blended eye shadow with a perfect cat eyeliner. Her lipstick was a dark, sexy pink colour. I took in the tight skinny jeans she wore with a tight red tank top, that showed off her perfect toned, hour glass body topped off with black high heels. I tried not to stare at her big b.reasts that were struggling to stay inside her top, and I noticed Jax doing the same. When he caught me looking at him, he quickly shook himself out of his struggling gaze and kept his eyes firmly on her face. “What do you want, why are you even here?” he asked. “You haven’t answered any of my calls or messages.” Her voice was husky and seductive sounding. “I’m not interested Zara, I don’t want to hook up anymore, so you can go.” Her hands were on her hips and she gave him a look that would have had me cowering in fear. “Excuse me Jax? We were together for three years, so you can talk to me with a little more respect than that, and while yes, after our breakup the casual s**x was fun, I’m not here for that.” So, she was Jax’s ex-girlfriend? I shoved any fleeting feelings of jealousy and insecurity way down deep inside and tried to figure out what was going on. “What do you want then?” “We need to talk somewhere more private.” Sighing, he replied, “fine.” We ended up using a room in a hotel that was less than two minutes away. The place was expensive and posh, his ex must have been very rich too because I wouldn’t dream of wasting money for a whole room in this place just to chat. As soon as the door shut, she said, “I came to warn you that you better not be responsible for these missing people because the police are all over it like a rash and I would hate to think I used to date a serial killer.” She shoved some missing persons posters at him and I noticed some of them, the pedophile guy and the woman, I couldn’t see all the posters, but I knew they were all more than likely his victims. Jax grew angry and snarled, “f***k off, how the f***k did you even find me here.” He cleverly had not answered her question and threw one of his own at her, and she took the bait. “Your sister and I are still good friends, and she knows I care about you, I wouldn’t do anything to get you into any trouble you know that.” He shrugged his shoulders and said, “so, what?” “So, if my psycho of an ex is murdering evil people, then he better damn well be disposing of the bodies properly.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, was this woman really condoning his murderous ways, had he opened up to her just as deeply as he had me about why he did it? “I have no idea what you’re talking about, there are no bodies Zara, go home.” “You promise it’s not you?” “Yeah, I promise.” He softened his tone and pulled her into a hug. Holding her close, he quietly said, “go home, I’m fine, I promise.” She finally left, and he turned to me and said, “I’m sorry about that, I had no idea my sister would be dumb enough to tell my ex where we were going, next time I’m not telling Annie s.hit. Zara’s still in love with me and a bit of a stalker, so keep an eye out.” “She’s a stalker? That beautiful goddess?” He snorted a laugh and said, “yeah, before I got put in that shitty asylum she was stalking me for a year after our break-up, I made the mistake of meeting up and f.ucking about with her sexually whenever I was horny, and it gave her the obsessive idea that we were still a couple, when I stopped seeing her she started turning up at the pack house, or my sister’s and doing all sorts of weird s.hit.” I suddenly felt sorry for her, I could imagine it being easy falling into the trap of stalking a beauty like Jax, wanting any sort of closeness you could get to him. “So?” He raised his eyebrows at me and said, “what?” “What did you do with the…bodies?” He shrugged like this was some normal casual discussion and answered, “oh, don’t worry, no one is going to find any trace of them.” The way he said it made me shiver, but I persisted, “how?” Grabbing a water bottle he replied, “I burned them out In the woods next to the warehouse, and before you panic, yes I waited and watched until there was nothing left but ash, anything left over I crushed with my boot.” It horrified me the way he could say it so calmly like it was nothing and for the first time this deep gut-wrenching feeling of dread and terror washed over me. I was alone in a hotel room with a serial killer who enjoyed t.orturing his victims before killing them like they were nothing more than game.
