“Then why does everyone look prepared?” The chief asked. “That’s not really any of your concern. All these weapons are registered.” I said. Brax coughed like he was trying to hide a laugh and the chief’s attention snapped back to me. “This isn’t school Skylar.” The chief said. “Good. Then I don’t need a hall pass to leave.” I said causing him to exhale hard. “I need to know what happened here.” He said. “Then investigate from your side of the line.” I said. “You think you’re clever?” He asked. “I think you’re predictable.” I said. Drake shifted beside me and I felt like his attention on me without even looking at him. So the chief looked past me towards the house. “Someone was shot.” He said. “That’s a strong assumption.” I said. “That’s a fact.” The chief snapped.
