The ride back felt different and it didn’t carry the same tension as before. The adrenaline stayed high but it didn’t turn into relief and it didn’t settle into anything clean. No one spoke much. Engines filled the gaps and the night pressed close around us. The weight of what we had just done followed us the whole way home. We pulled into the property and the lights were still on.
