The next morning the noise started early and it didn’t stop. The sound of engines and tools filled the yard like it had decided to settle in for good. I stepped out of my apartment and around the side of the house and watched it for a second. It didn’t feel temporary anymore and it didn’t feel like something that would disappear overnight.
