A cedar wand is any wand that is crafted out of wood from a cedar tree. More specifically, a cedar wand is any wand that has a cedar shaft, a cedar handle, or both. Cedar Trees There are over 30 different kinds of cedar trees that belong to several different families, but the ones used most commonly in wand making are the cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani), the Eastern Red cedar (Juniperus virginiana), and Spanish cedar (Cedrela odorata). While these three trees belong to genera, they all have similar physical characteristics (primarily a pleasant smelling resin that protects the wood from insects) and have similar magical characteristics.
