The size of the wand is primarily important for two reasons:
- First, a larger wand contains more magical wood than a smaller wand, and the degree to which a wand's wood strengthens spells is proportional to the amount of wood. Thus all things being equal, a larger wand strengthens spells more than a shorter wand. This is the same reason why staffs strengthen spells more than wands, and why wands strengthen spells more than the smaller talismans do.
- Second, a very large wand can be clumsy and difficult to point. A wand should feel comfortable in your hand and easy to move rapidly and accurately. A large wand is also difficult to hide from mundanes, which is why many mages carry short wands hidden in an internal "wand pocket" when leaving mage enclaves for the mundane world. This is als
