Chapter 2: A New Location

"I know it is the third or maybe fourth time, but you have to bear with it till we find a suitable place,” She answered, the ruffling of sheets coming up in the background as she spoke, I could tell she was arranging things. I heaved a sigh, pushing my fingers into my hair, and I thought of the stress attached to me moving again. I would have to pack up my bags, close my reservations in the hotel, and stay another night without eating because of her. “Can't I come there tomorrow, I am really exhausted now?" “No problem, just be careful, my dear, Keep your doors locked, don't let any man into your room, and please do not let yourself get carried away with the food. I know how you behave around food.” I chuckled softly at her last sentence, “Alright Mom, I will make sure to be safe and adhere to all your rules. Now, can I sleep?" “Yes my dear, you can, Be safe, Kisses," She cut the call after I had said goodbye and assured her once again that I was safe. I stared at the screen of my phone, a photograph of two paws on a three, one looked feminine while the other was larger, probably a man's, maybe my father. But that was not what was important now, I was curious to know why she kept protecting me like I am a kid. Twenty eight is not a child's age, I am old enough to live alone and maybe with my kids, but then she treats me like a kid, all because of, as she claims, an event that happened years ago. Each time I asked, she would change the topic, reminding me of things I liked as a kid that I must have forgotten. Yes, I might have forgotten, but at least she should learn to tell me what exactly makes her so paranoid. I changed into a simple dress, went through the few job applications I made the night before, when she was asleep on the bus, I had not gotten any response yet,but hopefully I will and it will be my ticket out of her arms. I decided to retire to bed early so I could wake up early, have a big breakfast, and take a cab to the apartment she rented for another week or so. “Do you think we have a chance of ever being free like our mates?" I asked out loud as I crawled into bed, raising the duvet over my body, leaving it on my chest, while I gazed up at the slightly dimmed ceiling. ‘Yes we will, You just have to be patient, Andalia,’ Luna replied. For the first time since forever, sounding like an actual wolf, she would never even comfort me. Instead, she would mock me or give sarcastic remarks to me, something I hated, but, well, I could not do anything to her. "What's with the change?” I asked, taking a big risk doing so, I could imagine her having a scowl on her face. ‘Shut up! What's wrong with being nice?’ “Nothing, Nothing at all, It is just not you, but I appreciate it though," I replied and stretched out my hands to the lamp stand, I muttered a goodnight before turning it off. Putting the room in total darkness. _____ I woke up the next morning to the sound of knocking on my door, I sprang out of bed in a hurry, almost stumbling over because of the speed I used to get out of bed. I pulled the door open, expecting room cleaning services, but who stood there was mother's driver, Clark, who was awfully young for his age. I smiled politely at him before asking what he was here for, but it was then I realized I was almost naked. I bowed with a nervous smile and slammed the door shut, covering my face with my palms as embarrassment shook me. I quickly changed into denim jean shorts, a white oversized shirt, and packed up my few bags. I walked over to the door where he was still standing waiting for me. I checked out, after ordering a food tray that was instantly brought for me to the van outside, I sat in the passengers seats behind, crossing my legs as I prepared to eat, while I waited for Clark to finish speaking with the security guards. Once he was done, and I was half way done with what I was eating, he started the engines, taking a turn out of the hotel's land and into a busy road that led out of the city mom left me in. She luckily found an apartment somewhere close by in a pack that seemed too small yet widespread. It was like a deserted place, and from what I heard, the place was like a domain for witches. However, I cared less. No one paid attention to us, so there was nothing to be worried about. And I would not be afraid of mere witches, especially those who move around werewolf packs. Also, they would be lowered grade since witches are enemies to wolves, for reasons I am yet to find out. Ever since I recovered from the accident that caused me these ailments, I always wanted to explore and learn more about other people, especially mortals. I read books about every Immortal and mortal I could find, especially Vampires, but the thing was that they lived half way across the world, and I would not be able to see one even if I tried. I would risk getting devoured along the way, something I try to avoid at all cost. I gazed outside the window of the truck, my eyes scanning the few people that we drove past. The beautiful structures that had been designed just to stand out from the rest. I heaved a sigh when the driver made a turn into a forest that soon disappeared behind us, revealing a lonely, almost deserted land. He then stopped in front of a flat that I guessed must be where mom found because I saw her standing on the porch with her arms crossed. I alighted from the van and tipped the driver so he would have something before he got home. I made my way to where mom stood with a frown on my face, ready to bombard her with questions. She wanted to hug me, but I stepped back, earning a pitiful expression from her. “Don't be like that. In fact, I am the one supposed to be upset with you. Why do you keep protecting me like a kid, huh?" I asked in one breath, watching her eyes dilate as I spoke. Who wouldn't be surprised? This is the first time I would be raising my voice at her. She then sighed, probably feeling guilty. She then took my bags from my hands and set them aside, pulling me to the couches outside to talk. And I was ready to talk, I was not so tired, so I could stay for a while. “After you were rejected, I made a deal with the alpha of the enemy clan promising to give you as his bride if he made you forget Ivan, Unfortunately, he was not what I thought he was," she paused, inhaling and exhaling. “After he found out you were Ivan's mate, he was so enraged that he tortured you day after day, did all sorts of things to you, that I had no choice but to try and get you away from him.” "I made plans with one of his bodyguards to help me get you away from the cell he put you in, and it went well. Until he found out and tried taking you back, I waited for you Andalia,” she paused again, sniffing as tears found their way down her cheeks. "You managed to escape, but the moment you stepped into the road, you were hit with a car that almost killed you. Even with that, he still sent me threats that I would return his bride because he held his own side of the deal.”
