Serena’s POV
The forest was a haven for my restless thoughts. Its stillness, the symphony of crickets, the rustling leaves—it all offered a temporary escape. But tonight, no amount of serenity could quiet the storm raging within me.
Kael’s words lingered like an echo I couldn’t shut out. “I’ll prove it to you, no matter what it takes.”
Part of me wanted to believe him, to cling to the sincerity in his voice. But the scars of his betrayal ran deep, and trust wasn’t something I could afford to give so easily.
As I made my way back to the packhouse, a sudden chill swept through the air. My instincts flared, and I froze mid-step, scanning my surroundings.
Something wasn’t right.
Then I heard it—a faint growl, low and menacing. My heart pounded as I turned toward the sound, my hand instinctively gripping the dagger at my side.
“Show yourself,” I demanded, my voice steady despite the fear clawing at my chest.
A figure emerged from the shadows, his golden eyes glowing like embers in the darkness.
“Hello, sister.”
My breath caught. “Ethan?”
He smirked, stepping closer. “Surprised to see me?”
I tightened my grip on the dagger. “What do you want?”
“Oh, come now, Serena. Is that any way to greet family?”
“You stopped being my family the moment you turned rogue.”
His expression darkened, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of the brother I used to know. The one who had protected me, who had laughed with me. But that person was long gone, replaced by a man consumed by bitterness and vengeance.
“I didn’t turn rogue,” he said coldly. “I was forced out—by them.”
“You made your choices,” I shot back. “Don’t blame the pack for your mistakes.”
Ethan’s smirk returned, but there was no humor in it. “Still so loyal to the pack that rejected you. Tell me, Serena, has Kael finally realized what he lost? Or is he still toying with your heart?”
“Leave him out of this,” I snapped.
“Oh, but he’s at the center of it all, isn’t he?” Ethan took another step forward, his voice dripping with malice. “The mighty Alpha Kael, who cast you aside like you were nothing. And yet, here you are, back at his feet like a good little mate.”
I lunged at him, the blade in my hand slicing through the air. Ethan dodged effortlessly, his laughter echoing through the trees.
“Feisty as ever,” he taunted. “But you’re out of your depth, sister.”
“Don’t call me that!” I growled, my wolf surging to the surface.
Ethan’s expression turned serious. “You have no idea what’s coming, Serena. The pack is on the brink of destruction, and you’re standing on the wrong side.”
“What are you talking about?”
He leaned in, his voice a whisper. “There’s a storm brewing, and when it hits, there will be no mercy. Not for Kael, not for the pack. And not for you.”
Before I could react, he vanished into the darkness, leaving me alone with his chilling words.

Kael’s POV
The tension in the packhouse was palpable. Patrols were doubled, the warriors on edge, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something big was about to happen.
Serena hadn’t returned yet, and the thought of her out there alone made my chest tighten.
I paced the length of my office, my mind racing with a thousand possibilities. What if the rogues had found her? What if Ethan had—
The door burst open, and I turned to see her standing there, her silver hair disheveled and her eyes blazing with fury.
“Where the hell were you?” I demanded, my voice harsher than I intended.
She glared at me, her amber eyes sharp enough to cut. “I don’t owe you an explanation.”
“Damn it, Serena!” I slammed my hand against the desk. “You can’t just disappear like that. Do you have any idea how dangerous it is out there?”
She crossed her arms, her stance defiant. “I can take care of myself.”
“I know you can,” I said, my voice softening. “But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to worry about you.”
Her expression faltered for a moment before she shook her head. “Ethan was here.”
The words hit me like a punch to the gut. “What did he want?”
She hesitated, and I could see the conflict in her eyes. “He said the pack is in danger. That something big is coming.”
My jaw tightened. Ethan’s rogue army had been a thorn in my side for months, but if he was escalating, it meant we were running out of time.
“I won’t let anything happen to this pack,” I said firmly.
Serena’s gaze softened, and for a brief moment, the walls between us seemed to c***k. But then she turned away, her voice barely above a whisper.
“I don’t know if I can trust you, Kael. Not yet.”
Her words stung, but I nodded. “I’ll prove myself to you, Serena. Whatever it takes.”
She didn’t respond, and the silence that followed was heavy with unspoken truths.
As she walked away, I knew one thing for certain: I couldn’t lose her again.
