Chapter 3

Ailee Lopez

"Ailee get up!" Her best friend - Cassandra yelled for the umpteenth time. "Let me be Kassy, I need to rest" she murmured in her sleep and rolled to the other side. "If you don't get up, I swear to God I am going to splash water on your face" Kassy threatened but she did not still get up. 

Ailee gasped when she felt the cold water hit her face, but her friend was not going to stop until she got up. "I'm up! I'm up!" She yelled and sat up on the bed while gasping for air.

"You little witch! Why did you have to disturb my beauty sleep like that!?" Ailee complained as she glared at her friend. Kassy just chuckled and replied. "Firstly, you don't need a beauty sleep darling". Ailee rolled her eyes "Oh! And why is that?" Still glaring at her friend.

"Well... Cause you already look like a f*****g goddess with that f*****g ass you got there, and your t**s are just the perfect size... Not too big, not too small. If I was lesbian, I'd definitely want to date you". Kassy said and added a dramatic wink at the end of her explanation.

Ailee gasped at the dirty language Kassy was using and covered her ass from the human being in front of her. "Secondly...?" She asked, diverting from the topic. "Oh yeah! Secondly, you have to go see your Grandma today".

Her eyes widened as the realization dawned on her. "Good Lord! I totally forgot" she said while rushing to the bathroom and closed the door, not before thanking her friend for reminding her.

Ailee got dressed and hailed a cab. She wore a peach gown that stopped right above her knees and a black scarf around her neck and wore white sneakers she got the day before the day she got fired as footwear.

She was missing her mother that day so she wore her mother's earrings and necklace and the bracelet her grandmother had given her.

She had baked cookies for her grandmother to distract herself from the anger and sadness that filled her heart when she got home yesterday so she also brought them along with her.

"My darling Ailee! You look so gorgeous". Her grandmother gushed when she saw her. "Granny!" She yelled and hugged her when she saw her.

"You also look beautiful granny, just like a Queen" she complimented. "Aww, you make this old woman's heart flutter. Come, let's sit". Her grandmother said and took her to her room so they could talk well.

"So tell me, how are you faring?" She asked with a little bit of concern laced with her voice. Ailee bit her lip and fidgeted with her fingers.

She didn't want to make her grandmother worry and she didn't want to lie either. "Speak up my child". She said in a voice that made Ailee's resolve and strong facade crumble.

"I'm fine granny" she said and bit her bottom lip harder, all the while trying to blink back the tears that threatened to fall, but her grandmother was no fool. She knew Ailee well, it felt like she could look through her soul and detect every concern, worry, and problem. She knew something had happened that disturbed her so much.

She took Ailee's hands in hers and stroked them slightly. "I might be old, but I'm definitely not blind. I can see my little pumpkin is troubled. Talk to me, what's wrong?".

Ailee suddenly broke down and put her head on her grandmother's lap while she stroked her hair. " Life is hard granny... I miss mum and dad a lot and yesterday, my boss fired me. So much for a secure job". She said and sighed while her grandmother chuckled at hearing her last statement.

"Late to work again Hunh?" She asked raising a brow as Ailee adjusted so she could view her grandmother's expressions. "Well, Um...yeah, and also because I do not let him have his way with me" her granny looked surprised and asked "Oh really? Are you sure?"

"I'm telling you granny rose, My ex-boss is a filthy man!" She said while nodding her head. She looked like a child that was trying to stand her ground and prove her point, her grandmother thought it was cute seeing her like that.

"It's alright dear, I believe you. I just want you to know that not everything works out the way you want" "B-bu-" Ailee wanted to talk her grandmother cut her off.

"No buts, let me finish. So... As I was saying, I always tell you... No one deserves misery. sometimes it is just your turn, and the only way out is to smile through the difficulties".

Ailee saw the wisdom in her grandmother's words and decided to live by them. "Alright grandma". She spent the rest of the time with her grandmother and left when it was evening.

On getting to her apartment that she shared with her best friend she saw her playing FIFA on her play station. Not that she understood the game, she just knew it was bout football and Kassy Loved football with all her tiny and foolish heart.

After waiting for 45 minutes, Kassy was finally done with her game. When she turned and saw Ailee looming over her. She was so close, at first, she shrieked and then she saw it was her, she put her right hand on her chest to calm her heart down.

"Why did you scare me like that?" She asked, trying to figure the reason out. Ailee just rolled her eyes and sat on the couch beside her and took out a chip from the bag of chips between them.

"If your brain wasn't so small, you would have figured that from my stance, it was not intentional" Kassy just glared at her and said "Yeah, whatever!"

Kassy then looked at her friend, she had this 'I want to tell you something but I don't know how I'll put it that won't make you worried' look. "OK, spill!" Kassy demanded.

"What?" Ailee asked trying to seem oblivious to the obvious fact. "Ahem, I won't ask again". Kassy tempted, and then she said " Um... I was just thinking, can we have fun tonight? Like... Go out and have some fun, maybe to a bar" she said but it came out like...

"umIwasjustthinking,canwehavefuntonight? Like... Gooutandhavesomefun,maybetoabar". Kassy's brain had to boot for ten minutes before it could process what she said.

"Wait... Can you repeat what you just said? Just to make sure I got the right message". Kassy said and Ailee repeated her statement with certainty laced in her voice "I said Kassy, Can we go to a bar?"

OK... It's getting interesting! What's going to happen next?
