Nicole’s POV
When Nathan saw the message sprawled across the wall, his face darkened with a fury I hadn’t seen before. His jaw clenched, his shoulders tense as he absorbed the threat. He read the words again, fists tightening and his entire demeanor shifted.
He called in the guards stationed near my room, and each one stood at attention, wary of his wrath. “Who was on duty?” he demanded, his voice a dangerous calm that made the air thick with tension.
Two guards stepped forward, clearly anxious. “We were, my king,” one of them answered. He kept his gaze steady, but I could sense the nervous energy rippling off both of them.
Nathan’s eyes were like steel as he looked them over. “And did either of you see or hear anything out of the ordinary? Any movement near Nicole’s room?”
