23 As they pulled into the main drive that circled in front of Marsden Court, Snave appeared in the doorway. His posture was the same as it always was – ramrod-straight – but his clasped hands belied his worry. Alice, in her white outfit, materialised out of the ether to provide a pristine contrast to the black backdrop of Snave’s suit. The cat, who Fina had christened Panther, sat calmly and comfortably in Fina’s arms as she exited the car. Alice grinned at the cat, while Snave’s face remained impassive.
