Chapter 2

The Proposal

Jessica's mind reeled as she processed the proposal. Marry James Parker? It seemed like a fairy tale, but one with a dark and sinister twist.

Her parents' faces were etched with worry and desperation. They had always been her rock, her safe haven. Now, they seemed fragile and vulnerable.

"Jess, we have to consider this," her father said, his voice barely above a whisper. "We have nothing left. No money, no home, no future. James Parker is offering us a way out."

Jessica felt a surge of anger and resentment. Why should they have to rely on some billionaire's charity? Why couldn't they just find another way?

But as she looked at her parents, she knew she had no choice. She would have to do this for them.

"Okay," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll do it."

Her parents' faces lit up with relief, and they hugged her tightly.

"We'll get through this together," her mother whispered.

But as Jessica pulled back and looked at her parents, she knew that she was making a deal with the devil himself. James Parker was a man with a reputation for ruthlessness and cunning. What would he expect from her in return for his "generosity"?

And what would happen to her if she didn't comply?

As she smiled weakly at her parents, Jessica felt a chill run down her spine. She was stepping into a world of luxury and privilege, but also one of danger and uncertainty.

Little did she know, her life was about to change forever.

The next day, Jessica received a call from James Parker's assistant, informing her that James would be sending a car to pick her up at 7 pm. He wanted to meet with her to discuss the details of their arrangement.

Jessica's heart sank as she hung up the phone. She felt like she was being summoned to the principal's office, except instead of getting in trouble, she was going to be forced into a marriage with a man she had never met.

As she got ready for the meeting, Jessica couldn't shake off the feeling that she was walking into a trap. But she steeled herself and put on a brave face, knowing that she had to do this for her family.
