Chapter 3

555 Words
The Billionaire's Lair Jessica stood outside her family's modest home, fidgeting with her dress as she waited for James Parker's car to arrive. She had spent hours getting ready, trying on different outfits and doing her hair and makeup. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had been growing inside her all day. As she glanced at her watch for what felt like the hundredth time, a sleek black limousine pulled up to the curb. The driver, a tall, imposing man with a stern expression, stepped out and opened the door for Jessica. "Miss Langley?" he asked, his voice firm but polite. Jessica nodded, feeling a surge of nervousness as she stepped into the limousine. The interior was luxurious, with plush leather seats and a mini-bar stocked with champagne and canapés. As the car pulled away from the curb, Jessica felt a sense of disorientation wash over her. She had never been in a limousine before, and the opulence that surrounded her was overwhelming. The drive to James Parker's estate took about 20 minutes, during which time Jessica tried to calm her nerves and prepare herself for what lay ahead. She had no idea what to expect from James Parker, but she was determined to be strong and composed, no matter what. As the limousine pulled up to the estate, Jessica's eyes widened in awe. The mansion was enormous, with towering spires and glittering windows that seemed to stretch on forever. The driver opened the door and helped Jessica out of the car, leading her to the entrance of the mansion. As they stepped inside, Jessica was greeted by a butler who looked like he had been plucked straight out of a Dickens novel. "Welcome, Miss Langley," the butler said, his voice dripping with formality. "Mr. Parker is waiting for you in the study. Please, follow me." Jessica nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation as she followed the butler through the winding corridors of the mansion. She had no idea what to expect from James Parker, but she was determined to be brave and composed, no matter what. As they approached the study, Jessica could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She took a deep breath, smoothed out her dress, and stepped inside. The study was a large, dimly lit room with walls lined with books and a massive wooden desk in the center. Behind the desk sat James Parker, a tall, imposing figure with piercing blue eyes and a chiseled jawline. He looked up as Jessica entered, a small smile playing on his lips. "Ah, Miss Langley," he said, his voice low and smooth. "Welcome to my home. Please, come in." Jessica felt a shiver run down her spine as she approached the desk. There was something about James Parker that seemed to draw her in, something that made her feel like she was drowning in his eyes. But she pushed the feeling aside, reminding herself that she was here for one reason and one reason only: to save her family. "Thank you, Mr. Parker," she said, her voice firm and composed. "I appreciate your hospitality." James Parker smiled again, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Please, call me James," he said. "We're going to be seeing a lot of each other, after all.”
