I grabbed and leaped onto the nearest horse as it came out of its stall, nearly falling off. I held tight on to the horse’s mane and locked my legs around her body. Behind me Jeremiah fiddled with a knot for a rope that stretched across the one corner of the barn. I called after him, “Hurry up and get on a horse. That thing will be here any second.” He ignored me and finished his task, running over to the other side of the barn to work on another knot. I pulled at my horse’s mane and dug into her side with my heels forcing her to stop. She did so reluctantly and I turned her around. I urged her back to the barn, hoping to grab Jeremiah before the creature broke in. With a mighty crash, the whole wall of the barn exploded.
