Chapter 5 The dance class had been heaps of fun. The leads seemed to have it easy compared to the follows. We did the same basic steps and just moved our arms around, while the follows had to practically read our minds and dance all over the place. I remembered most of the first lesson and practiced the basic step at home. I rock stepped with the vacuum cleaner and twirled with the mop. I dipped the mop, too, but I really should have tried that move before cleaning the floor. Wet mop smells worse than wet dog. I couldn’t wait to go dancing again but I wasn’t ready to go to the Sunday lessons. I wanted to feel more confident before I danced at the Nightcliff jetty. That class was held outside right beside the footpath. Anyone could walk past and see me. The rest of the week dragged by. I
