Chapter-11.
Ryden Parker's POV:
The room was silent. Aside from her strident breath and my low grunting sounds in between, nothing could be heard. I watched her biting her nails as she looked completely oblivious, leaving me cringed at the sight of her horrid habit. It reveals like she does that whenever she is in a dilemma or confusion. However, my mind was an absolute mess right now. Its unproductive buzz; I'm still thinking my way out of the clutter that I had unintentionally created.
I misunderstood; thinking that I somehow succeeded in occupying her mind regarding this secret deal. Turns out, I might have to try harder. Yet, apparently, I have got two options; either to lose my patience right away and dismiss this woman or hang around till she gets full confidence about the arrangement. However, I might lose it anytime now as Ms. Reeves takes too long to fix upon a decision.
She occasionally looked my way and as I raise my brows questioning her, she again drifts back to her daydream or thinking or whatsoever. I have no time for this anymore. I agree it's a big deal for someone like her, cause from what I see, she would take an entire lifetime to think about this. "I am not asking her to marry me." I hide my frustration under my gritted teeth. I was just asking her to be my girlfriend for a certain period of time.
She glances upwards hearing my voice, her lips pursed but again slightly opened and loose. Her eyes were fixed now behind me, drifting back. I speak as she blinks refocusing her attention back, "So are you ready?" I ask her; and I have never been so expectant in my entire life, apart from the times when I expected Shirley to wake up; however, I did expect this woman to reply in my favor if I say so.
This was the eighth time I asked her and she still can't answer me clearly. My lips curled up in annoyance. I was slowly losing it but I needed to handle her carefully and make her accept this deal. One moment she agrees and then the other second she refuses. If this was any kind of business or dealing, everything would be in my errand by now. Not that this isn't one kind of a deal for me; a different type though. I don't want to face problems further because of her later. Additionally, my options right now are fairly limited. I haven't really got time to find her replacement. I cannot believe how I could ever think she would accept it. Of course, she should, considering that I saved her last night and not to forget I was a stranger so, in that sense, she should have already have accepted it by now.
"Okay fine." I dismissed when she was still uncertain and hesitant. "I'll tell Alfred to drop you at your place." I was irritated and bothered. I was hoping since last night that she would assent but all she does is thinking about the same thing all over again. If this is the case, I would never be able to persuade anyone that she genuinely is my girlfriend.
Especially Dad. I have no idea how am I going to find her substitute. She wasn't rich and could be influenced easily to this girlfriend thingy for me. Also, I thought I could convince her using her father's bungalow.
Last night, I was at this club that I usually go to have this meet up with Dexter. He was giving me information about the agencies and the people who were being liberated from the borrowing business. He was informing about Andrew Reeves and his connection with our firm. He had been so ignorant about his work and how he had nothing left later. Dexter further enlightened the fact that he had been missing ever since. However, I can't let go of the matter that easily.
I had just come out of the men's room when I heard a loud shriek. I ignored it first as I found it unnecessary to pay attention to anyone's scream. But then just as I took a few more steps, I heard another squeal followed by a loud scream. Instantly, taking my steps towards it, I found a man forcing himself to a wasted girl. I stopped him and he was so furious and outraged. I noticed a few red finger marks on her cheek. He had already hit her? I frowned.
Pathetic man. She was so drunk to even stand properly. She was totally wasted. At first, I tried to make him see some real sense; that whatever he was trying is wrong. But he twisted her arm again while she attempted to get away from him right in front of me and she fell on the floor and in no time, the lady passed out.
"Taking an advantage of an occupied woman doesn't make you a man. Grow up and go get a life." I gritted and pushed him back as he stumbled. With a swift motion, he advanced his way and landed a punch on my nose. That was enough for me to take out my boxing skills on him. I repeatedly landed punches on his face. He fell on the ground and I took the girl with me to my new farmhouse. Later, surprisingly, I found out that she was no one but Reeves' daughter.
That was it. It did not really take me long to make up my mind. Before she woke up, I studied her father's case and looked over mini details. She looked okay by appearance and she's tall too. She wasn't blonde which made me quite pleased. She wouldn't refuse to be my girlfriend for a short while in exchange for her father's firm and their mansion. Would she now?
Or so I thought.
"Okay. I'll do." Her firm voice brought me back to reality and I glimpsed at her. I gave her a dubious look. "I'm sure and I'm serious." She added getting up from the bed. "But I'm not sleeping with you. I'm not going to kiss you on the mouth and I would like to get my house first, and then start this game. Also, as you supposed, the assets as well, including the grand piano." She finished as I nodded perplexedly.
"Take a quick shower. I'll wait outside for you." I said, however, without glancing at her as I reached for the door's knob. "There are few dresses ordered for you in the cabinet inside. Choose any one of them and make it quick. Don't take too long." I said in my most proficient tone and she gave me a narrowed stare.
"Weren't you a bit overconfident about me agreeing to all this?" She asked as I raised my brow. "You arranged clothes for me!" She added and I shrugged. I was about to leave when she called. "Mr. Rich guy, what do they call you?" She wiggled her brows with a bit of tease.
"Ryden Parker," I replied shortly in a firm voice as she stares intently for whatever reason. I raised my brows again. From what I grasped, she likes to stare occasionally. "I won't tell my name until you ask me, Mr. Rich guy." She let out a half crooked smile and I corrected her in a stern voice. "Ryden would be fine. And there was no big deal in finding out your name, Ms. Sarah Reeves." I concluded in a monotonic tone as she stared at me cross-eyed before adding, "Fine then. Sarah would be fine as well. Thank you tons." She finished carrying a smile containing full of mockery.
I blatantly stared at her and she shrugged just like I did earlier and turned to make her way to the bathroom. She tilted her head a little as she spoke. "I don't like someone ordering me. Since we are 'together' now, I would like if you could talk normally. Thanks again, Ryden." She mocked air-quoting the word together and smirked as she spelt my name. Ignoring her, I finally left the room. I just hope she could easily convince everyone to think that she is my girlfriend in reality; mainly to Dad and Ms. Suarez.
Sarah Reeves' POV:
Oh, my-my!!!! This bathroom is tremendously huge. My kitchen is so tiny compared to it. Every single thing in here screamed wealth and luxury. A large excited grin overtook my expressions and I thought about what happened till now. This could turn out really well. In fact, I'm one hundred percent sure about it. Suddenly, I felt so blissful. I could not stop grinning.
This guy is like a lifesaver for me. I would get back our house. No need to continue in that ratty place. Honestly, I am tired of my life. Thinking about each penny and saving for Mom and Ella and the bills always make me feel sick to my stomach. I was thinking about everything before agreeing to this deal. I know I should not have taken that much time thinking, but I can't help it. I was so anxious and wrecked. But now when I think about it back again, I don't remember me being so in high spirits in my life. I still can't get over the reality that I was going to get back our house and the things we used to own. Damn, how did I get so lucky overnight?
I chose a white cute looking dress with a LOVE written at its bottom line which reached just around my knees. The fact that everything would be easier from now made me feel so tingly. I stepped out of the room and this rich guy was already on a call. Only his right side of his face was on display for me as he gazed with most solemnity outside the big glass window. His forehead was creased and his intense look only made him look mature and appealing at the same time. The chap is exactly a beau type but his insolence only makes me feel otherwise. However, I still have this feeling of seeing him somewhere before but I can't be sure either. He looks familiar.
Realizing my gaze on him, he gave me a serious stare. I wonder what was wrong. He stepped forward and spoke. "You took so long." He complained and I rolled my eyes heavenward. He let out a low grunt but walked away anyway and I trailed behind him like a lost puppy. Well, I kind of was a lost puppy in this huge mansion. When I looked at the other rooms' interior and everything else, I could only think one certain thing and that was that how did I ever get so lucky to be get noticed by this richling. However, it was only a few moments later that I realized, it was definitely because of the debt my supposed father had taken from his firm and that is the only thing that brought him to me and not to forget, he had saved me yesterday night and now he is openly using me to get his work done. "And I thought I was lucky," I murmured unhappily glancing at the palace like a mansion in awe and feeling hurt at the same time.
However, in no time, I reassured myself saying, the reason is actually not important. What should matter to me is the exchange that I would get after pretending as his girlfriend and I tried to be deliberately oblivious about the debt part for a while and apparently, I got succeeded either.
"Where are we going?" I asked when he just drove for about an hour already. Till now I never witnessed any residence or anything. It's only natural and trees.
"To the city," his blunt reply made me realize that it is going to be hard to deal with him.
"I guessed it but, anyway, can you drop me to my house?" I requested and he gave me a look.
"I'm dropping you at a fashion boutique. You have to shop for tonight's party." He dictated.
"I think I made it clear that I would want you to talk normally. You talk too sternly," I paused and he just spared me a look, "And no thanks, I can manage by myself. Just inform me the time and I'll be ready." I stated firmly averting my gaze to the front. Although I was not in any way rich like him, I had my pride issues too. What!? Only rich people are entitled to have self-worth problems? Well, we have them too, probably more, might I say.
"Look, this is some kind of deal okay. And whatever you wear while you're with me is paid by me either. So without arguing further, just let me deal and you're there." He informed and I stared at him twisting my face in disapproval.
"Do I get to choose what to wear or that will be your task either?" I scorned at him and this time he didn't bother to even look my way. Guess what, I am still not feeling fabulous. All thanks to Mr. Richling over here.
"Of course," he paused and before he could add, I interfered, "Wow!! I feel so happy. All thanks to you Mr. Rich guy." I blinked and faked a big sweet smile, only to get a glare from his side.
He cleared his throat, "I will leave after that. I will ask Alfred to drop you at your place later when you finish shopping for tonight." He replied ignorantly; his gaze on the road.
"Oh, I am so glad Mr. Rich guy. I cannot imagine what I'd do without you." I came back derisively.
"It's Ryden. Get over it, Ms. Reeves," he responded undisturbed, "We're here." He announced loudly right after.
"Thanks," I said and got out of the car.
"Everything has been explained to the manager of the store. Just choose according to your liking." He said while I waited there for his next order.
"Is there anything else, Mr. Parker?" I derided folding my arms with a fake sweet smile but he was oblivious to my mockery this time as I rolled my eyes.
"I forgot to add," he paused, "Don't show yourself with a skin-tight dress. Make sure the outfit is classy and sophisticated enough." He completed with a concluding nod and I glared at him. Before I could react, he drove off and I was just staring at the road from where he just disappeared.
Bloody emotionless rich guy!
I hissed and walked inside the store.
