HomeHayyan and I hiked through forest and field, over hill and around swamp. But this time, I did not avoid towns. I would not hide again. Each town greeted me with whispers and stares, and I clutched my axe, ready to defend myself. But they just wanted to know what I was. No one had heard of the minotaur named Chase. Through the first part of our journey, we had no money and few skills that could earn some, so we passed through towns quickly. We could have laboured for food and lodging but the next day we still would have foraged and slept on the road. When harvest season came, we would stop for a few days and earn a bit of gold. Hayyan loved these days. As the sun set and our work finished, they would spend hours in the tavern, talking to everyone. “What’s it like, being a farmer?”
