Yulia just stared at him dumbstruck. Surely she had misheard him? They had only been on two dates; to even mention marriage right now was ridiculous!
“Wife?” she repeated, foolishly. She had no idea what was going on; he had been standoffish for the past week, although the way he held her at night belied this behaviour, and then suddenly he is telling her that he liked her and planned to marry her. Could this night get any stranger?!
She studied his face, wondering if he might be joking, but he looked completely serious.
“Lance, I … wife?” she said again, still unable to think of a response. “We hardly know each other…”
