The SpillThe Thirteenth Hour Harald Hansen signed on with a Norwegian shipping company at the tender age of fourteen. Such things were not uncommon for northern Europeans in the early part of the century. Hansen fought tears as he watched the dock and his weeping mother shrink to nothingness as the great ship steamed away on his first voyage. For the next twenty years, he would divide his time evenly between his home in Oslo and Brooklyn, New York. Harald Hansen loved the sea and considered it a blessing that nothing could distract him from the fairest maiden of all. The healthy salt air and rigorous daily exercise soon molded the young Norwegian into a strapping, barrel chested mariner. Life seemed so pure and simple, until he met Solveig Petersen, a shy, lovely immigrant from his homet
