CALEB

The day could not get any worse, and yet fate clearly wasn't done f*****g me over.

"Ahh who is she?" A high pitched voice questioned rudely.

Fuck.

Nikita and I had stormed into my room fully prepared to shove her inside lock the door and throw away the key. However, I wasn't prepared for a half naked Paige to be lying on my bed.

A thin sheer black lace robe covered her exposed lingerie. The black and red lingerie combination and fading fake tan made her skin look sallow. She swung her legs to the floor standing up, arms folded and scowling at Nikita.

"Is this the punishment you had in mind? I have to watch you screw your girlfriend." Nikita said sarcastically. "Go right ahead. The more amunition I have when it comes time for my revenge the better."

"YOU" I roughly shoved Nikita into the room "stay right here." then pointed at Paige. "And YOU my office NOW!" She bent to grab the bags.

"Leave them. My office now." My command leaving no room for argument and she ran out of there like her ass was on fire.

"Hendrix, my office now and bring some clothes." I mind linked.

One last look at Nikita I left, tugging at my hair.

Sighing deeply composing myself before I ripped someone apart.

Paige was sitting on the sofa looking sour.

"Who was that girl Caleb?" She bombarded as I entered the office.

"It's Alpha Caleb." I growled fiercely and she retreated.

"What were you doing in my room?" This time I spoke calmly, well as calmly as I could muster. My wolf was torn between wanting to beg at Nikita's knees and furiosity at Paige for upsetting my mate further. Paige fiddled nerously with her lace gown. Hendrix better hurry up with some clothes. Not because it was tempting me but because the only person I wanted to see in sexy lingerie was the little siren upstairs. She cleared her throat before speaking.

"Well... when you gave me your card and asked me to go shopping for Luna clothes I thought...I thought that it was your way of apologising for upsetting me the other day."

Delusional much. When have I ever apologised.

"And why were you in my room?"

"No-one was around when I arrived so I went to look for you. When I got to your room I thought that maybe we could make-up and then you would see how much I love you and willing to forgive you" her voice became a mumble but I still caught them, "then you might choose me as the Luna and mate rather than waiting until the summit to choose one of the other candidates as Luna."

"Candidates? Choose a luna. What are you talking about?"

Her expression was confused.

"... you... dont know?"

"No, I don't know."

"Umm, my father is coming here in two days to inform you that at the next pack summit meeting the council will be selecting a chosen mate for you."

"WHAT" I yelled standing up.

"You called for me." Hendrix interrupted and thank f**k he did because I was about to flip.

His nose had been reset and was starting to heal beneath the ugly purple and green bruising, it'll be good as new by tomorrow.

"This must be for you." He tossed the clothes at Paige.

He mindlinked me "Seriously Paige tried to get with you again, I bet that went down well with Nikita." I gave him a pointed glare, my aura rolled off me even more.

"So what did I miss?" He asked.

"Say it again, and tell us everything you know" I demanded to Paige.

"Forgive me Alpha I didn't realise you didn't know."

"Tell me? tell me what don't we know?" Paige who held the clothes just enough to cover her. I wanted her fully clothed and out of my site.

"My little sister Peyton called and told me Dad is coming here to tell Alpha Caleb that at the next summit meeting he will be required to choose a mate. So when you told me to go shopping for Luna clothes in my size I thought maybe you would announce to my father that I am the one you chose."

"Did she say who some of the candidates are?" Hendrix probed.

"Umm, there's Carmen, Harriet, Zoe, me and even few from other species. There will even be a ball to celebrate the announcement"

My mind was reeling. Even far away from my father still tries to pull my stings. Him and his damn little spies. Whatever happens he must not find out about Nikita, not yet. She is a wild flame difficult to contain and may get herself burnt if my father gets a hold of her.

"You're dismissed." I directed at Paige, turning my back and gazing out of the large floor to ceiling window.

"What do you think that means?" Hendrix asked once we were alone.

"It means my father is trying to reign me in under his control again."

"By trying to mate you off?"

"Those girls she mentioned. They're daughters or family members of loyal fanatical followers of his"

"Why though."

"Luna's have more influence than you think and if I mate with one whose family is heavily invested in my father's cause it will seem like I support it too."

"We're still taking over packs in his name isn't that enough."

I sighed. "I think he might have realised how powerful my leadership truly is. Since I'm the one doing his dirty work the packs follow me not him."

"Do you think he knows about Blood Oath."

"No not yet."

"Did you divert our captives to the secure holding space like I asked?"

"Of course."

"Good."

"Did you change your mind for her?" Hendrix asked.

Yes and no. Not that I was willing to admit that out loud. I wasn't ready to hand over Cairo for my father to kill I wanted more information about their past between them and my father. But maybe a part of me wanted to keep them safe for her sake too.

"You like her! I knew it. Is that why you wanted to fight coz wolfie got jealous she likes me better."

"f**k off."

"I didnt mean anything by taking her out bro. I just really wanted to meet her and give her a taste of freedom before she stuck with your gloomy arse again."

"Yeah, thanks dickhead you ruined my plans."

"What plans?"

"Nevermind, I better go make sure none of my things are smashed again."

"Wait what plans?"

It was time to deal with my little spitfire.

"That was fast, for an Alpha your endurance sure is lacking." Nikita said staring out of the large window still in her maid uniform. I leaned my back against the closed door.

One day I'll show her my endurance.

"I didn't touch her and you know it."

"Hm this time, but you have before. Probably right on that bed." Bitterness and disgust laced her tone.

"No-one else has ever slept on that bed except for you."

"Is that supposed to make me feel glad, because I really don't give a s**t. I want the sofa back. I'm not sleeping on that bed with you again."

"Not a chance."

"Urgghh, your so irritating." She turned around to face me. The space between us felt bigger than the gorge she leapt over when we first met. Lowering my voice and crossing my arms.

"You know what's irritating...What's irritating is that you left this room without permission. What's irritating is that you disrespected my authority in front of my pack. But what's the most irritating is that goddamn mouth of yours, if you don't keep it in check I'll..."

"You'll what? Punish me like you did Hendrix?" Anger, hatred and disgust radiated off her. Sighing, I stalked towards her but she quickly dodged my advance, skirting around me and backing away. Instead I reached for the bags on the floor and placed them on the table.

Here goes Annie's advice, couldn't be any worse than the guys was.

"Firstly, Paige isn't my girlfriend. We've f****d several times yes, but never on this bed."

"She was the one you slept with when we first got here right? Clearly she is means something to you because you couldn't wait to get into her pants. I guess thats just who you are a sick twisted f**k who marked a 17 year old just to torture."

"Your mark is temporary." I blurted frustratedly. She looked confused.

You've seen my beast of a wolf, his instinct was to claim you physically and he would not have been gentle." She visably gulped "After the bite he was wild with rage that I held back my venom. Paige was... a convenient stress relief but it hasn't helped my cravings for you, I didnt enjoy it one bit."

Letting my demonic black wolf eyes flicked into my green I lowered my voice dangerously.

"If I was in your position Nikita, I'd watch my tongue. Keep pushing me and who know's what my wolf will do to you."

She chewed her bottom lip nervously as I shoved the bags into her arms.

"Paige was only supposed to get new clothes for a female about her size. She misinterpreted thinking they were for her."

"But you didn't tell her they weren't. Obviously she assumed they were for her." Nikita remarked.

"I don't why chicks read into s**t like that. I got called away to important business and didn't know I had to explain they weren't for her."

"Why send her at all, couldn't one of the other maids have done that."

"The other maids already have jobs. Paige is the daughter of one of my father's council member. All she does is sit around gossiping or shopping she knows what clothes and s**t to buy for girls."

"You could have let me go shopping with Hendrix."

I glared at her, that fucker better back off she's mine. "No f*****g way you were going outside with my mark but I guess it's too late now. I've already had to Alpha command most of my warriors. It should be gone in the next day or two and then I was planning to take you around the Pack with some f*****g cover story about why you were here or some s**t. No one would have questioned it even with you being a new comer and all. But the risk that people saw your mark today and especially what happened outside just now might get back to my father."

"What's the difference if your daddy dearest finds out. You plan to torture and kill me anyway so why try to keep HIM from knowing."
