FOREST
"I see him. He is up ahead. Running very fast, fast has his feet can take him." Jennifer Chinga speaks into her earpiece to Mark her handler, as she rides a dirt-bike through the woods.
In front is a man wearing a torn suit like someone who has been beaten up.
I love this, a thought crossed her mind. I love it when they run for their lives; a smile crept up on her face as she pursued the scared guy through the woods.
"I mean who wouldn't love a good chase or a hunt down in my case."
"Jennifer, be careful." Mark said back to her
"Don't worry. I will."
Jennifer is an agent of the Hunter Academy, the school where hunters are trained to put down dangerous people like terrorist.
There they are taught different techniques and skills which are known as Hunter Skills. Not anyone can learn these skill sets, and they are only taught by the H.A schools only. And apparently there are only five (5) H.A schools in the world, and they are all strict with whom they recruit in.
It's a top secret organization that no one knows about. All that is known about it is that there is a group of people that put bad guys away and they are called hunters.
And the question will be how does one come to find themselves in this top secret organization that's obviously more of a myth than reality to many people?
Well the organization finds them, just as it hunts down bad guys; it also hunts down those special kids who can be hunters. But as for Jennifer, her father recruited her together with her sister Jacqueline before he died.
He told them that the Hunter work, is in their blood. With these words, Jennifer and her sister strive to be great hunters like their father Henry.
Jennifer starts catching up with the guy she is after...
She taps a button on her earpiece.
"Target insight." she speaks to Mark through the earpiece.
"Is the window open?"
"No, trees are in the way."
"Alright if the window opens take it."
"Copy that."
She increases the speed on her motorbike and start closing up the distance between them. When he heard the sound of the bike coming, he turned and saw that she was catching up with him. He started running as fast as his legs could take him, but it was pointless.
Because has the window opened up for Jennifer, she grabbed her gun from the side of her bike and point it in focus of him. And when the window clearly opened up, without wasting time she gunned him down with one bullet and he dropped down dead on the ground.
Without stopping her bike, she passed his dead body and out of the forest joining the highway road back to Orial City.
"Hunt complete" she told Mark through the earpiece
"Good job. Payment will be in soon." Mark said and she hung up.
After a shot while, her phone vibrates in her blue-jean pants pocket; she removed it, turned it on, and on the screen was a message showing that she has just received a sum of $150, 000.
ORIAL CITY - NIGHT
Jennifer finally reaches at her apartment. She parks her motorbike beside a Hatchback.
Inside the apartment she could hear music playing followed by Lisa, her best friends' off tune singing along voice. She wondered what she was doing in her apartment, making this kind of noise this late at night. And also why did I give her my apartment's spare keys? She thinks to herself.
But it wasn't really that much shocked, because Lisa has been her best friend since childhood that's apart from her sister. Who unlike Lisa doesn't seem to need her right? But who can blame her, our job requires a lot from us, she thought to herself as she dragged herself to the front door.
She opened the door and entered the apartment nearly close to the Living-room. Immediately she was inside, she is attacked by a big shaky bear hug from Lisa.
"I finally made it!" she exclaimed in joy as she hugged her tight and shaking her entire body.
"Made what? A plan to kill me?" she said jokingly as she broke herself free from Lisa's hug.
"No, I can never do that." she said has she punched her shoulder playfully.
"Well it felt like you did give it a try a few moments ago." she said with a smile as she moved to the living-room removing her black leather jacket while Lisa followed her behind.
"Really I was just trying to hug you"
Reaching the living-room, she threw her leather jacket together with herself on the couch, because her body was sore from all the riding.
"Forget about it, what are you so excited about more than usual that you almost struggled me to death?" she said as she relaxed on the couch.
She got an envelope that was in her purse "why tell you, if I can show you." she said, has she handed it over to her.
"What is this? A court order" she teased her as she got the envelope. The joke based on the fact that Lisa recently just got a court order.
"Ha, ha, ha, funny, just read it."
She opened it and pulled out a letter which she read. As she read the letter she couldn't help a smile creeping up on her face for it was good news. And when she was done, she looked at her with a shocked but yet happy facial expression.
"Yes, yes, yes..." she rumbled as she held her joy within.
"You got a job?" she finally asked trying not to scream out of joy.
"Yes!" she responded and they both screamed with excitement while they hugged and jumped up and down.
"Am so happy for you" she said as they stopped screaming, jumping and hugging.
"I thought you are not an emotional-touchy kind of person." She teased her as she laughed and sat on the couch.
But she wasn't wrong; Jennifer wasn't that kind of girl who pursued romance or the perfect guy thing . Not even the girly-girl type of things; because being in her line of work she doesn't have any time for any of those things.
"You know what?" she said as she sat next to Lisa on the couch.
"What!"
"This calls for a celebration."
"You are right." she said as if Jennifer just spoke what was on her mind.
"Am coming let me go and get the beers from the fridge." she said as she got up and headed to the kitchen.
"How was work today?" she asked her as she was in the kitchen getting the beers.
"You know, the usual just paperwork." she said as she came back with a six (6) pack of beer in her hand.
"So it was boring."
"Yes" she responded as she sat down opened the six (6) pack and grabbed two bottles of beer. She got one and passed it to Lisa "here is to boring jobs."
"My job is not boring." she said as she grabbed the bottle from her hand
"Yeah because being an accountant is fun." she chuckled as she says this and she took a sip from her beer.
"At least my job doesn't require me to be preparing some appointments to some rich Bustard who thinks they own the world."
"Point taken yours is less boring." she responded as she didn't want to drag this job thing any further, moreover she knew her job is the coolest among all jobs but she can't tell her that so instead she said..."but do you want to start a debate on whose job is better or get drunk?"
"I wanna get drunk!" she said as she raised her bottle of beer in mid-air...
"Amen to that sister!" she responded as she raised her bottle of beer hitting it gently against Lisa's bottle. She got the stereo's remote and played the song Lisa was playing. She increase the volume to the point that it drowns they voices and they dance to beat.
Two hours later, they had already gone through fifty (50) bottles of beer, Lisa was wasted laying down on the floor half unconscious. Jennifer wasn't even nearly drunk yet; ever since she started drinking beer it usually takes her having a couple hundred bottles of beer for her to even get drunk.
She turned off the music and carried Lisa to the guest room and laid her down there.
As she was coming out of the guest room, her phone vibrated in her pants. She took it out and turned it on; she found a new message from the Academy. She opened it...
Academy:
Jennifer Chinga, you are needed by the deputy General's office tomorrow morning at the Academy ASAP.
Jennifer:
Copy that.
She turned off the phone and headed to her room.
THE NEXT DAY
Early in the morning she was in the Deputy General's office wondering why she was called in, because she has never been called into the Deputy General's office before. She hoped she didn't do anything wrong, or maybe I will finally get the promotion I has been asking for, she thought to herself.
As she is waiting for the deputy general, she starts looking around his office. It's so well tied up with three book shelves insight, he must love reading, she thought.
As she is looking around she reaches the wall that contained the past best hunters the academy ever had. And among them is a picture of her father saying 'HENRY CHINGA HUNTER GENERAL'
Yes, her father was a general here but since he died no one has ever occupied is position as the general. But she always thought she will be the one who is going to occupy his position, but sadly her sister is almost half way there has a special hunter, while she is stuck has an ordinary hunter.
Special hunters went on top niche secretive missions than ordinary hunters. And she assumed they must be more exciting for her sister to even have abandoned her for them completely.
"He was truly one of the kind wasn't he?" the Deputy General asked from behind causing her to startle a bit for she didn't hear him come in, she turned and saw Robert standing behind her, and this was the first time she has seen him. He is wearing a suit, that fit his body perfectly, and his body gesture screams authority and he also seems to be in his early 30s.
"Sorry for scaring you" he said as he went and sat in his desk chair "please sit" he says as he shows her the chair to sit in, which was in front of his desk table.
She grabs the chair..."yes he was" she said as she sat down on the chair.
"Huh!" he seemed puzzled by what she has said.
"Your question earlier, about my father."
"Oh yeah he was truly an extraordinary hunter. I learnt a lot from him." he responded "in fact you and your sister remind me of him a lot."
"Really, I really don't think so." She said "At least my sister is a special hunter, unlike me who is stuck in the ordinary section."
"Well that's the reason you are called here today."
"Wait, you mean I am finally getting promoted?" she said while trying to hide my excitement.
"Yes you are." he responded
"Yes! Finally I got what I deserve."
"Judging from your excitement I take it you don't know what special hunters do."
"What does that supposed to mean?"
"Jennifer being a special hunter is not easy." He said has leaned forward...
"The people you are about to start hunting down are more powerful than you think." he said "in fact there are not even human."
"What kind of people are you talking about?" she asked as she tried to wrap her mind at what he is saying.
"These are monsters; creatures that find pleasure in killing people." he responded "Have you heard of the supernatural beings?"
"Yes, from TV shows and some internet freaks who say they saw a werewolf or something creeping in the dark..." she chuckled a bit "...it's all a bunch of nonsense."
"Actually it's not and it's all real." he said as leaned back on his chair.
"Wait supernatural beings?"
"Yes Jennifer, supernatural beings. These are the things you are going to be hunting down from here on"
After hearing this, she was shocked not knowing what to do with the information she has just received; is this the promotion I have been longing for, does everyone know about this, my sister does she know about this. And if it is all true, for long has this been true and how can you tell the supernatural from humans. Thought ran through her mind.
Because based on what she sees on TV, if that's true that means she is not match to go against them.
"Jennifer!" Robert called her name causing her to come out of her head and back into the present.
"Jennifer!" he called out again
"Yes, am here" she responded
"Are you OK? You seemed a bit off there."
"Oh no am fine, just have a lot of questions going on in my head."
"I know it's a lot to take in"
"I only have one question."
"Go ahead."
"Does my sister know this? I mean how does one protect oneself from such creatures?" she asked has she tried to get her head straight.
"Well when you decide to become a special hunter, you will be trained on how to protect yourself against them."
"Alright can you give me time to think about it?"
"Sure take all the time you need?"
She stood up with her head all confused filled with a lot of questions. She starts heading out of the office, but as she reached at the door...
"Jennifer!" Robert called
"Yes!" she answered without turning
"As you think about it, I want you to know that the being that killed your father is still out there."
These words hit her differently for her father was the only parent she had with her sister, after they mother died from cancer. And knowing that her father's killer was out there living freely wasn't something she was willing to accept.
She turned slowly facing Robert "am in. But only on one condition."
"And what's that?"
"You send me after my father's killer."
"Done, see you tomorrow for your training. Welcome special hunter."
After he said this she went out of the office. Not knowing what she has just gotten herself into.
