Broken

Chapter 1

"Oh my God Nathan is leaving for college today" I jumped down from my bed and went to Nathans room who was already packed and ready to go.

"Well someone is finally leaving , now my cereals are safe" I said with a wide smile on my face.

"I know you're gonna miss me me Emma" he said with a smirk.

"Oh please wipe that dirty smirk of your face, I won't even notice your absence dear brother"

"Nathan are you ready to go" I heard my mom ask from downstairs"

"Yes mom" he answered

At this point I couldn't hold back my tears any longer, I ran and gave Nathan a hug, I didn't want to let go , he held me tight.

"Don't cry Emma I'll be back for thanksgiving and besides I am just one call away"

"I'm not crying you jerk" I quickly wiped my tears and gave him a mild punch on his arm , he did the same and before we knew it we were throwing playful punches at each other and laughing hard.

"Oh I see my kids are bonding" my mom had a smile on her face as she came and gave both of us a hug.

Seeing my mom smile made me happy , ever since my Dad left us smiling wasn't really something she did ,I had to enjoy the moment.

Nathan carried his bags and headed downstairs, I could not believe he was going , what was I going to do without him? I felt tears form under my eyes but I wiped them , I didn't want Nathan to see me cry.

I was always good at acting tough but deep down I was as soft as ever

Nathan knew this about me so he stopped halfway through the stairs came back up and gave me another hug.

"I Love you Emma " he whispered and gave me Peck on my forehead.

"Emma it's time for dinner"

My mom and I sat down and ate in silence, I looked at were Nathan usually sat and began to miss him all over again.

"Missing Nathan already"? my mom asked , breaking the silence." wow nice mind reading mom"

" yeah I miss him so much " I answered.

The silence took over again, I could tell that my mom was worried about something, she barely touched her food.

"Mom, is something wrong"? I asked standing up to sit closer to her.

" No Emma , go finish your dinner "she answered , she stood up and went to her room .

I cleared the dishes and went to my room.

I was working on my history assignment when I heard a knock on my door

" may I come in"?

"Yes mom" I answered

When my mom entered she looked like she had been crying since she left me at the dinner table.

I got up and when to her.

"Is everything okay"?

I became worried, i thought something had happen to Nathan.

" Is Nathan fine"?

"It's about your Dad Emma"

I took two small steps backwards , I steady my breath to try calm the panic , my heart pounding in my ears.

"What about him" I finally managed to say.

"Your Dad got another woman pregnant just a year after we got married, I heard he is getting married to her very soon , he sent divorce papers like a week ago"

I could see the pain in my mom's eyes, I could imagine how broken she felt.

I couldn't bear to see her this way.

I went and gave her a hug.

" you don't deserve all this mom" with tears streaming down my face I tried to calm my mom down who was already soaked in tears.

My mom wiped her tears away left my room.

my Dad had another family , he abandoned us to find another family, why wasn't I so surprised, after all he wasn't a good person, I was glad my mom was getting divorced , at least she could start over.
