Chapter 7

[Serena]

Before I knew what happened, Alex’s best friend (Lucas) came over to me and wrapped his arm around my waist muttering a quick “don’t let him kill me,please.” Seconds after I watched Alex’s head turn towards us and his eyes darkened, almost black, meaning his wolf was almost out. He charged towards Lucas and carefully detangled me from him, before knocking him to the ground and starting to punch him. I placed my hand on his arm and he hesitated, but punched him again. “Hey, come over here with me” I said softly and he slowly turned towards me, his eyes slightly lighter. I wrapped my arms around him and eventually his stiff body calmed down. His mum approached us, but before she could get too close he growled at her and the Alpha moved closer as he didn’t like anyone threatening his mate. I locked eyes with who I thought was Alex, but was in fact Ryder. “Ryder I think you should give Alex back control. Nothing is wrong, we are all fine” I said while unconsciously stepping out of his embrace. Admittedly, I was still scared of Ryder as all I remember was a very angry wolf. He whimpered softly and I grabbed his hand, shocked to see claws instead of finger nails and slightly more hair. I told everyone we were going to go and have a little conversation before leading him a bit further away. “I am sorry mate, I don’t want to scare you. I love you and I would never ever hurt you” Ryder whimpered. His voice had dropped a few octaves compared to Alex’s, his eyes were black and I realised he had fangs. “It’s okay, I understand it must have been very disorientating for you on the first full moon” I replied. 

“Alex doesn’t like that I am talking to you now, he is scared that I might hurt you,but—“

“You would never hurt me. I trust you. You don’t have to apologise any longer” I interrupted. He gave me the biggest smile, showing off his pointy canines and I laughed. 

“I have to give Alex control now, he is fighting me so hard for it. Just so you know, mate, now you aren’t afraid I won’t be so held back”

“I don’t doubt it. It was really nice talking to you Ryder” I replied as I watched his eyes turn back to hazel and felt his claws retract. Alex came back and was so happy I forgave Ryder and was no longer afraid. We spent the rest of the evening chatting until I had Alex drop me home.

[Next day]

[Alex]

I was so happy that I would now be spending more time with Serena. *Mate likes me. She isn’t scared anymore. I want to talk to her again* Ryder purred in my head and I told him to take it easy especially since I was going to be around humans all the time. Me and Serena didn’t have the same first period so we agreed to meet outside her classroom and walk to our class together. 

The class went very quickly and I was the first one out the door. I waited outside of Serena’s class before they were dismissed. Serena walked towards the door with three other boys. They were laughing with each other and shoved through the door. I was seething. Who where theses boys and why are they with her. She is mine. Then one of them had the nerve to trip her up. She tripped, but before she could hit the floor I caught her. She looked up and we locked eyes. I could feel my wolf trying to take control. She stood up and gave me a hug muttering “be nice” into my ear. “Guys this is my other friend Alex” she said to them. Other friend? She is mine. Serena introduced me to Jared, Marshall and Harvey. Jared looked mixed race with really long hair, Marshall was very pale and had short black hair and Harvey had an olive skin tone with short curly hair. They all said hi and I just nodded. My hands were in fists and I stood there very stiff. *Kill them. They touched our mate* Ryder growled. I ignored him, but in the that Ryder had spoken to me she had gone over and shoved Marshall saying jokingly “I am going to kill you. How embarrassing. I almost landed on my arse in front of everyone.” They all laughed and said they would meet us at lunch before going the opposite way to us.
