His and hers

Chapter 3

[Months later]

[Serena]

Me and Alex hung out with each other all the time. I really trusted him and felt like I could truly be myself around him. One day I stayed behind after class in order to recieve extra support in my french. Alex   had to rush off, he had been  acting really moody all day so I was fine with leaving on my own. 

Once I got home dad left, trying to hide the fact that he had  another girlfriend only 5 months after my mum died in a hit and run. I sat at the table and began unpacking my bag when I saw Alex’s maths book. I debated on whether or not I should drop it to his house, deciding to go through with it as it was friday and he may have wanted to study over the weekend. I walled over to his house, only ten minutes away, and his mother answered saying “Hi Serena, nice seeing you. He is swimming in the pool round the back. Be quick because he has to do something later on.” 

“Oh I am so sorry to disturb, but I thought he might want to study over the werkend and I have his book” I replied while walking towards the indoor swiming pool. “Hey, I brought you you’re maths book that you left in class” I said standing on the edge of the pool watching him swimming. 

“Serena, hey, get in for a bit” he said while swimming over to the edge that I was standing at. 

“No way. I can’t swim” I said while turning my face away from his. 

“Thats fine, you can watch I guess. I have to do something later, but ten minutes won’t hurt” he replied and continued doing lengths. He was so easy to talk to and we soon got carried away talking when all of a sudden his demeanour changed as he jumped out of the pool. He grabbed chains  and pressed them into my hands, telling me to chain him up. I laughed at him, but when I looked into his eyes I could tell he wasn’t joking. After chaining him to the wall where there were hooks his body started spasming. “What is going on Alex?” I said anxiously. 

“Leave” he said in a low voice.

“I’m not leaving you in pain” I said and sat near him placing my hand on his shoulder and rubbing soothing circles. He grunted in pain several times, never making eye contact with me. I was so confused and scared, but Alex was my best friend and I wasn’t going to leave him when he was in pain. He rested his head in my lap and I absentmindedly started playing with his hair. I watched as his body convulsed. I heard sickening pops coming from his body while his grunts turned to screams. His bones were realigning and I tried to move away, but he clung onto me. I told him everything was going to be fine, even though I had no clue what was going on. We had been sitting there for almost an hour when hair started growing from his body and his screams turned into growls. All of a sudden the person sitting next to me had turned into a massive wolf. I screamed and scrambled backwards not looking behind me. The wolf growled at me, baring its teeth which made me move away even faster. I thought if i keep my eyes at it’s feet then maybe it wouldn’t feel the need to attack, but clearly that wasn’t working. All of a sudden i had fallen into the pool, meanwhile making eye contact with the beast in front of me.

I was in so much pain, changing for the first time. Serena was trying her best to comfort me even though she had no idea what was going on. As soon as i changed, I met my wolf Ryder. He took control and was frustrated that we were chained up. *Why are we in chains? I want to run* he whined. It was then that he recognised that there was a human in there and started growling. It felt like I was watching from a distance with no control over what happened. She crawled away and then fell into the pool. She made eye contact with us before falling in and Ryder howled *mate!* He gave me back control as he was scared that he would harm our mate. She was screaming as she struggled to keep her head out of the water. She couldn’t swim. I was so overwhelmed with worry that i broke out of the chains instantly and jumped into the pool. Instead of grabbing onto me the way I hoped she would she tried to get away causing her to cough and splutter more. I whimpered at the thought that my mate was trying to escape me. I carefuly used my teeth to grab her jumper and pulled her over to the side. She had stopped kicking and screaming and instead looked at me in confusion. She quickly uses the steps to get out of the pool and layed on the side while breathing heavily, almost forgeting I was there. I can’t believe Serena is my mate. Will she reject me after this I worried.
