His and hers

Chapter 1

Me and dad had just moved to Epping after my mum died in a car accident . I don’t know how to cope with this grief because I have always been closer to my mum. Dad has barely been around and when I sit in our house all alone all I can do is cry. I miss her so much and I feel so lonely without her. I mean we each deal with grief in our different ways. Maybe dad just needs some time and I guess until then I am alone. 

It was my first day in a school I have never attended. Dad dropped me off muttering a quick “you’ll be fine kid. Walk home after.” I got out of the car and walked to the office avoiding all the stares coming from the nearby students. The receptionist said “hello, you must be our new girl Serena.” I nodded and was handed some papers as she continued “we are so happy to have you here. I have given you your timetable, a map of the school and your locker number. You have 20 minutes until your first lesson starts. Have a good day and don’t hesitate to come back if you have any questions.”

“Thank you” I mumbled and walked to the one place i knew i would feel comfortable. The library.

I found it with little problems. Picking up a book, I sat at a table alone and started reading. “Hi, you must be knew here. I’m Alex” a boy said while sitting down in the seat next to me.

“I’m Serena” I said and the bell rang. I rushed out the library fumbling in my pockets for the school map. I had planned to start looking for my next lesson five minutes before the bell. “Where are you going now?” Alex rushed after me. 

“Science.”

“I will take you” he replied.

“No it’s fine. You probably have friends waiting for you” I said while staring at the map. 

“Don’t be silly. I haven’t got many friends” he said with a small frown on his face. 

“I’m sure you are well liked around here. I mean, I have known you all of five minutes and I already think you are really nice” I said honestly making him smile. He took hold of my hand and led me to the class. 

“Here we are. I will be in spanish, wait here for me after.” He said and then started walking away, stopping once to wave at me.
