CHAPTER TWO
BAMBI -- POINT OF VIEW
My mind blanks, and I can’t seem to process what’s happening in front of me.
“What the f**k?” Calla roars, processing it quicker.
James jerks in shock, and the girl on his lap turns around. Lea Bones. He is cheating on me with Lea Bones!
The bad blood between Lea and I go way back. We used to be friends when we were kids, but after my parents' death, she switched up on me totally and became a b***h. She bullied me in school and made my life a living hell. She couldn’t understand why Calla chose me and made me pay for it. Even now, as adults, she never stopped being a b***h. She always flirted with James, but he assured me that nothing was going on. He told me not to worry about her, and yet, here they are, on my parents’ bed.
“Wh … what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be on your way to work?” He glares at me.
Lea gets off him, and he works on his trousers.
They were having s*x?!
On my late parents’ bed?
My stomach turns, and bile rushes up my throat.
“What the f**k, James. WHAT THE f**k. EXPLAIN YOURSELF RIGHT NOW!” Calla screams, cheeks flushed.
I stand there like a fool, unable to believe what is happening.
This is a bad dream. I am stuck in a nightmare. This isn’t real.
“I don’t have to explain anything to you.” James stands and wraps his arm around Lea.
He’s holding her as if she belongs to him. He never held me this way. He was always cautious about being in public with me. He never looked at me this way, and now, he’s holding her.
“What’s going on, James? What’s she doing here? What are you doing here? You know you’re not supposed to be here, in my parents’ bedroom. What the f**k is going on?” I whisper, voice trembling, heart breaking.
He looks at me, and I watch the mask on his face fall off.
He smiles widely and is pleased.
“We no longer have to pretend now, so I’ll tell you exactly what’s going on. Meet my fiancée, Lea.” He speaks, gesturing to my worst enemy.
Lea smiles and nods, “Yes, we’re getting married.”
She waves a large rock in my face, and my blood boils. That looks like a very expensive ring. How could he afford it? Something tells me I won’t like the answer.
“We’ve always been together, and you were the other woman. Now that he has gotten everything he needs from you, we’re done pretending. I never pretended, of course. I’ve always hated you, and everyone knows. How stupid could you have been to think you deserved James? Look at him, and look at you. You’re nothingness, Bambi. A stupid and dense girl who has no idea what she’s dealing with. James is mine. James has always been mine.” Lea grins, smiling wider.
I shake my head, eyes burning with tears, “No, no, no, that’s not true. We … he’s my boyfriend, not yours.”
James scoffs, irritated, “Wake up, Bambi. I am not yours. You were just a placeholder. You bought me time, and of course, let’s not forget the money. You’re weird, Bambi. You attained the role of a provider, and I didn’t care. Why would I stop you from giving me money? You were even weirder in the bedroom when you wanted me to degrade you.” He spits, disgusted.
My cheeks burn, and I shake my head, “So, you decide to sleep with someone else?”
My processing is slow, and Calla explodes.
“You could have broken up with her! You didn’t have to stay with her and keep playing with her, but you did. You have no f*****g ground to stand on, and I’m going to make you regret this. I will burn everything you hold dear!” She screams and lunges forward at Lea.
My eyes widen, and I try to hold on to her.
Finn must have heard the commotion because he rushes in and holds her.
“You cannot hurt me. You cannot touch me.” Lea hides behind James, her hand on her stomach.
No.
“James and I aren’t just getting married. We’re having a baby too. Our baby. Everything has worked for us, fallen into line. We have been planning our wedding for weeks now, and half of the pack are invited.” She grins joyfully.
“Half of the Pack? You’re insane if you think my father will let this stand!” Calla barks.
“Of course, he will. He’s the Alpha, that’s all. He won’t mix emotion and business, not like he ever cared for her, and neither have you. You don’t have to pretend to tolerate her anymore, Calla. She doesn’t deserve you or me. She’s the dirt beneath our shoe, and she has to go. There’s something absolutely deranged in her. Why else would she want me to call her names, spank her and choke her? She’s ruined, and you'd better leave her.” He mocks, and tears fall from my eyes.
“No, you'd better leave this moment before I bite your head off!” She sneers.
He chuckles and walks out of the bedroom.
“You’ll get a call soon. Act wisely.” He adds and leaves.
Unable to do anything else, I fall to my knees, and a sob tears out of me.
My lungs constrict and my chest caves in. The life I thought I was building turns to dust before me.
He has been cheating on me.
I’m nothing but a placeholder.
Calla holds me and tries to comfort me, but I can’t allow myself to be comforted. She warned me. She told me that he was going to break my heart, but none of us could have expected it this way. He has ripped out my joy and left me broken. Half the Pack has known, and they said nothing.
My phone rings, and I frown when I see it’s the bank.
“Hello, Ms Bambi. We’re calling to remind you that your house will be closed today until you’re able to pay off your seventy thousand loan.”
