reinstatement when another storm hit. Richard Kane’s Revelation Late that night, Alexander met his father in the private study of Kane Tower. The lights were low, the skyline glowing beyond the glass walls. “You want to know why I stepped in?” Richard asked, voice quiet but commanding. Alexander studied him. “You’ve been absent for five years. Why now?” Richard poured two glasses of whiskey, sliding one across the table. “Because you were about to make a choice. Not for the company. Not for the empire. For love.” Alexander didn’t reply. Richard continued, “I’ve always known Seraphina was dangerous. She’s brilliant—but she’s calculating. And she sees loyalty as a weakness. You would have been cornered.” Alexander’s brow furrowed. “So you saved me?” “Not saved. Tested.” Richard leaned back. “I wanted to see if you had the courage to choose your own path. And now I know you do… but there are consequences.” He paused, eyes narrowing. “If you fail from here, it won’t just be the company. It will be you, and everyone you care about.” Alexander clenched his jaw. “Meaning?” Richard’s gaze softened, but the weight of it crushed the room. “Lila is not just a secretary. She’s the wildcard that could destroy or save you. Protect her.” Alexander’s chest tightened. Protection. Choice. Risk. Everything he had ever measured collapsed into that one statement. Marcus Moves Meanwhile, Marcus wasn’t idle. He had been betrayed, outmaneuvered, and humiliated. But Marcus was clever—and ruthless. Late that night, he contacted several board members and legal teams, subtly framing Lila as the instigator of the scandal—the woman who distracted Alexander, who compromised corporate integrity, who had violated governance ethics. By morning, murmurs of “HR investigation” and “potential conflict of interest” were spreading quietly through Kane Enterprises. Alexander’s phone buzzed repeatedly. Screenshots of emails and memos were waiting. “You were warned,” Marcus wrote in one message. Alexander stared at it, fists clenched. But he didn’t reply. Not yet. Lila Under Fire By midday, Lila felt the weight of the attacks. Her inbox flooded. HR requested a meeting “regarding conduct and potential conflict of interest.” Anonymous threats began appearing in company channels. Colleagues whispered behind her back. She wanted to walk away. To vanish. But her loyalty—her heart—didn’t allow it. Her phone vibrated. Alexander’s name flashed. Meet me at the penthouse. Now. She hesitated. Then went. Confrontation at the Penthouse Alexander met her in his private penthouse, lights low, the city sprawling below like a battlefield. “They’re coming for you,” he said immediately. “Marcus. Seraphina. The board. Every angle they can attack, they’re using.” Lila’s hands shook slightly. “Then why… why did you save me?” He stepped closer, voice low, urgent. “Because they think they can manipulate me by threatening you. They’re wrong. And if I don’t fight… we both lose everything.” She looked at him, heart racing. “Everything?” “Everything,” he said firmly. “Your career. Your reputation. Me. And us.” She swallowed. “Then… what do we do?” He reached for her hand, holding it like a lifeline. “We fight. Together.” Her pulse surged. Fear, desire, and determination coiled together inside her. This wasn’t just office politics anymore. This was a war, and she was in it.
