VII "Let's see if it works"

Casper POV The feast ended, and I returned to the mansion to prepare the components for making a lighter, or as they call it here, a "little fire relic." As I entered the mansion, Money called me to discuss something, so we went to the private meeting room. "Great spirit of knowledge, your idea was splendid. I admire you!" he said. I smiled and told him that I needed to do some preparation. He then asked, "Milord, may I become part of your plan, if you please?" I smiled and patted his back. "My pleasure, Money." He followed me to the smithy, where I spoke to the blacksmiths about my plan. I drew a blueprint of a lighter, depicting a hollow, long, thin rectangular shape as the case or vessel for the fire. I explained this to the blacksmith and instructed him to use steel as the material. The blacksmiths in this world have superhuman skills, crafting components with machine-like precision. I also drew a blueprint for a spark wheel, instructing him to shape it into a serrated, hardened steel wheel of tiny size. I then detailed the creation of a valve, a tiny tube-like shape, and a valve jet, a tube-like shape with a fork holder in the middle. Next, I drew the blueprint for the spring. "The spring," I explained, "is a crucial component. It needs to be coiled tightly, providing the necessary tension to enable the flint to create a spark when the wheel is turned. This is what ignites the fuel and produces the flame." The blacksmith nodded, his eyes lighting up with understanding. He began to work on crafting the spring, carefully coiling the steel into a precise, compact form. With modern techniques blended into this magical alternate world, we aimed to merge the best of both worlds. The craft skills here, combined with my knowledge of modern engineering, would create something truly remarkable. The lighter, though simple in my world, would be a groundbreaking innovation here, showcasing the potential of combining technology with magic. As the blacksmiths were working, I turned to Money. "I'll handle the specifics of the lighter's construction," I said, keeping my tone light. "This process needs to remain confidential for now." Money nodded, his curiosity evident but respectful of my decision. "Of course, Milord." I guided Money to a comfortable seat at the side of the workshop where he could observe. "While the blacksmiths and I work on this, let me explain some of the principles behind it. This device, which we call a lighter, will revolutionize how people create fire." As I spoke, the blacksmiths continued their work, shaping the components with remarkable skill. I explained to Money the general concept without giving too much detail. "The lighter consists of several key parts: a case to hold everything together, a spring to provide tension, a flint to create sparks, a spark wheel, and a valve to control the release of gas. When the wheel is turned, it strikes the flint, producing a spark that ignites the gas." Hours passed, and the components slowly took shape. The blacksmiths brought me the finely crafted pieces: the hollow steel case, the serrated spark wheel, the meticulously coiled spring, and the tiny valve jet. I felt a surge of excitement. This was the moment of truth. "Excellent work!," I said, laying out the components on the workbench. I then carefully assembled the lighter, ensuring each part fit perfectly into place. First, I inserted the spring into the base of the case, securing it tightly. Next, I positioned the flint above the spring, aligning it with the spark wheel. After placing the valve jet at the top and securing it, I fitted the spark wheel into its holder, making sure it could turn freely. Before completing the assembly, I addressed the issue of fuel. "We have to use a type of liquid fuel for lighters. Here, we need something equally effective and safe. I’ve heard of a type of slime that produces a flammable liquid, but I haven’t been able to acquire any." Money's eyes lit up. "Milord, I believe I can help with that. I have contacts who deal in rare and magical resources. Give me a moment." He left the workshop briefly and returned with a small vial of slightly viscous liquid. "This is extracted from the napalm slimes found near volcanoes. It's highly flammable and burns cleanly." I took the vial, examining the liquid with interest. "This is perfect, Money. Your resources are invaluable." Carefully, I filled the reservoir of the lighter with the slime extract. "This fuel should work well," I explained, ensuring the liquid was properly contained. "It's not only effective but also sustainable, given the abundance of these slimes." With the fuel in place, I closed the lighter and took a deep breath. "Now, let's see if it works." I pressed down on the spark wheel. The wheel turned, striking the flint, and a small shower of sparks flew out. For a moment, nothing happened. I adjusted the valve slightly, allowing a small stream of the slime extract vapor to flow out. I pressed the wheel again, and this time, a tiny, brilliant flame flickered to life at the top of the lighter. We all held our breath, watching as the flame danced steadily, its warm glow illuminating the workshop. Money let out a cheer. "You've done it, Milord! It's a miracle!" I smiled, feeling a deep sense of accomplishment for the team. "It's not a miracle, Money. It's craftsmanship working together. This little fire relic, as they call it, will be more than just a tool. It will be a symbol of what we can achieve when we blend our knowledge and skills." We stood there for a moment, admiring the flame. The possibilities seemed endless. With this new invention, we could revolutionize daily life, making it easier and safer for people to cook, light their homes, and perform countless other tasks. "Let's test it further," I said, extinguishing the flame and then reigniting it several times to ensure its reliability. Each time, the lighter performed flawlessly. Money's eyes sparkled with excitement. "What shall we do with it now, Milord?" "We'll introduce it to everyone," I replied. "But first, we'll produce a few more to demonstrate its utility and potential. This is just the beginning, Money. Together, we'll bring many more things to this world." With a sense of purpose, we set to work, planning the next steps to bring our invention to the people. The lighter was just the start of a new era, and I couldn't wait to see what the future held.
