CHAPTER THREE

MIA MORENO

I take a look and was shocked to see that my account has been credited with five million euros. My eyes widen in horror as i stared at my phone. Did Asher send this?

Before i could process the message, four more messages pop up, each one revealing a new surprise. Our loan has been clear, and even my college fees has been paid.

My phone rings, making my heart skip a beat. It was an unknown number.I hesitated for a moment before answering the call.

“ I will be back, mom.” I said, caressing my mom's hand before i excuse myself out to pick the call.

“ H... hello” I said in a low voice.

“ I'm sure you've seen that your loan has been cleared and money has been sent to your account.” a deep voice speaks bluntly. “Alpha will see you in the next two days.” he added to his words.

A mention of “Alpha” send a shiver down to my spine.

I recognized the voice, it's Asher's bodyguard. Before i could say a word, he hang up the call.

It's three days already, As i walk home, to get what mom needs, my mind is preoccupy with thoughts of mom's recovery.

A car suddenly swerved in front of me, blocking my path. I instinctively raised my hand, ready to curse at the driver, but my words died on my lips as the window rolled down.

Asher, the Alpha, sit in the backseat, his piercing eyes fix on me. His face was chiseled, his jawline sharp.

“ Get in!” he said, his voice low and commanding, nodding towards the car. “ We have a lot to talk about.” he added.

I hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. But something about Asher's demeanor put me at ease, and i find myself getting into the car.

“ His name is Valois. ” he said with his voice tough and serious. “ He's been terrorizing the city for years now, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. I need your help to track him down and take him out.” he said throwing me a serious glare.

I nodded, “ what makes you think i can help you? ” i sounds curious.

He glare at me, i watch his eyes glinting in the moonlight. “ have heard a lot about you, Mia. You have a certain.. talent for getting out of tight spot, I'm very sure you are perfect for this job.” he replied, sounding convincing, even though he was blunt.

We finally pulled up at a sleek black building, Asher turned to me with a serious expression.

“ This is where the supernatural community gathers. ” He said “ There are those who will love to see me fail, and they won't hesitate to use you to get me.” He add in a cold warning tone.

His warning sent a shiver down my spine,

I nod with my heart racing fast, with anticipation.

C'mon Mia, you've never been one to back down from challenge, and i am ready to face any danger that lay ahead.

We are doing it for mom, Mia. I brace myself up before stepping out of the car.

As we walk into the building, I couldn't shake off the feeling that i am walking into a trap.

The whole place was filled up with different supernatural beings.

“ Hey! ” a weird looking guy tap my back, i turned around, forcing a smile. “ Hi .”

he had brown hair on a low cut, red eyes, and an arrow tattoo on his left arm.

“ I am a demon, from Shadowborn pack .” he said, his sinister grin making me feel uneasy. “ what about you.” He extended his hand, waiting for my response.

“ I'm the Alpha's personal assistant .” I said, trying to sound confident.

His personal assistant? Why did i say something like that.. I was just scared and i spill out the first thing that came to my head.

He raised an eyebrow. .“ Really?? ”

“ Delson !” a familiar voice call out that name behind me.

Asher appeared behind me, his voice firm. “ What are you doing here? ” He throws him the question as he walks close, his eyes narrowing.

Delson bowed low. “ Alpha, i was just introducing myself to your...assistant. “

Asher's eyes flicked towards me, . “i see..” he let out his words, grinning at me.

“ well, let's get down to business, shall we?” he said,

“ Delson, gather everyone up, i will like to have a word with you all."

“ okay Alpha, ” He bow low again before exiting Asher's presence.

I watch him go, feeling a sense of unease. What did i just get myself into? A voice inside me murmur that to me.

ASHER BLACKWOOD

I address the gathering, my voice commanding attention.

“ This is Mia, and she will be playing a crucial role in tracking down rogue vampire, valois. So i expect you all to give her your full support and cooperation .” The room fell silent, and they respond in unison,

“ Yes Alpha.”

Mia smiled, her eyes sparkling with determination.

“ I look forward to working with you all. ” she said smiling.

I nodded, dismissing the meeting.“ Let's reconvene in three days. We have a lot of work to do.”

I turned to Mia, my tone serious.“ let's go.” I grab her hand and drag her out. We both stormed into the car.

“ What were you thinking, displaying yourself in front of Delson like that ?” Mia glared at me, her eyes flashing with defiance.

“ What do you mean? You're the one who brought me here.”

I sighed, rubbing my temples. “ look, you're human. You don't understand the supernatural world. You can't just waltz in here and expect everyone to accept you.” Mia's expression turned icy. “ I'm not just any human, Asher. I'm the human you desperately need, remember?” she said, throwing me a glare.

I raised an eyebrow, impressed by her boldness.

“ You're feisty, I'll give you that. But don't think for a second that you can handle yourself in this world of mine .” i said, sneering.

“ Stop the car!” I yell, my voice harsher than i intended.

My driver slammed on the brakes, and i turn to face Mia.

Her eyes sparkle with confusion and a hint of fear. “ Get out! ” I growl, trying to maintain a stern expression. “ I will pick you up in three days.”

Mia stared at me, her face pale, before slowly getting out of the car. I watch her go through the car mirror.

I still get a glimpse of Mia standing alone on the sidewalk of the road, looking lost and scared. My twisted with regret, but i push the feeling aside.

I felt a pang of guilt for treating her so harshly.

But I know i need to maintain this attitude. Mia's presence will only make me weak, and i can't afford to show it.

Mom is finally discharged and we are home.

“ Mia, I'm sorry for worrying you .” She said, her eyes welled up in tears.

I move closer to her, “ We agreed you won't cry, mom .” I said, holding her.

“ Have been asking you Mia, where do you get the money to pay for my surgery and you even clear up my debts in five days .” she asked, sounding worried.

“ Mom, don't stress yourself with that, go in and relax, i will cook something for you, so you can take your medication.” I said, trying to rub off the conversation.

“ But..” she try to say something but i cut her off. “ Let's eat, mom.” I said sounding cheerful.

She sit staring at me, without saying a word.

I knee in front of her and slowly grab her hands.

“ Mom... can you please trust me, i want you to stop asking where i get the money, just trust me please, mom.” I said, my voice low and above a whisper.

She nodded, tears stream out of her eyes. “ come here.” she said, pulling my head closer to her chest, she caress my head as she let out her tears.

“ I made dinner,mom.” I try to break the silence with that.

we eat in silence, and the next hours was a blur.

I step out of my college, The aura of opulence and refinement covered me, the building seems like a palace, with a blend of modern and classical architecture.

My phone rings, I glance at my phone screen, frowning at the unknown caller. “ Who's this?” I mutter to myself before tapping on the green slide.

“ Get into the black sleek car in front of you.” a low, smooth voice instructed.

I recognize the voice instantly, it's Asher. His voice sends a shiver down my spine.

I scan my surrounding before i finally spot the car parked by the curb. Asher's bodyguard is standing by the car side, his eyes fixed on me.

I walk towards him, “ Hi.” i said, smiling at him. “ Get in.” he says curtly, opening the door wide.

I didn't argue with him, I get into the car and we drive through the city, he keeps taking a route i don't recognize.

The roads are unfamiliar, it's not the same route we take the last time. I was slowly covered in fear, but I'm trying to keep my cool.

We finally arrive at a at a mansion, it's majesty, it stands tall and proud, it's sleek, in a modern design.

The walls were made of gleaming glass and steel, reflecting the sunlight like a mirror, the roof was a sleek.

“ Wow!” I whisper to myself.

“ Let's go in .” The bodyguard said, commandly.

We walk through the building and finally stop at a library room, he push the library door and it opens, surprisingly it reveals a cavernous space filled with rows of books, no one is inside, i glance at the huge library and scan it.

The bodyguard move closer to the books and pull the red one, then suddenly another door opens behind the books.

I open my eyes in horror, “ Let's go .” he said, before i could say a word.

I walk behind him, it was as if i entered a cave, it was very huge. My heart keeps pounding in my chest, i was struck by the vastness of the space, with towering walls and a high ceiling.
