Mystery Guy
Darkness. So tangible, I could almost touch it. I wondered where I was and why it was so dark. As I thrashed around trying to see around, I saw a faint light up ahead. I couldn't help but walk towards it like a moth drawn to a flame. Something just wasn't right. The hairs at the back of my head stood up in warning. I chose to ignore them and walked ahead. Just as I was stretching my hand towards the light, I was brutally wrenched from the light and thrown away but I didn't stop falling. My heart was beating so fast. I could feel the darkness come over me. I suddenly couldn't breathe. I tried to shout but no words escaped my mouth.
I came to with a start, my heart beating frantically in my chest. I was soaked in sweat. That nightmare had really worked wonders on me. As my breathing returned to normal , I took my time to take in my surroundings. Just where was I ? I had no clue. That's when I remembered the lady I had first seen when I woke up. How did I even get here? I got out of bed and went to the window. It was dark outside. Rain was pouring heavily.
"Where the f**k am I?" I asked the room. Maybe it would have the courtesy of answering me but of course it didn't. Maybe I had finally gone bonkers. I had to find out what was going on. I stepped away from the window and started looking around for something to wear. I found some clothes neatly folded on a chair. I put them on and walked out of the room. I found myself in a dark corridor but there seemed to be light coming from one end so I decided to head towards that direction ignoring the fact that this scenario was similar to my nightmare. As I got closer, I could smell food in the air. My stomach rumbled. Just how long had I been asleep?
Just as I as chastising my stomach, I heard an angelic voice come from the direction of the light. I was entranced.. So sweet, so heavenly. It was just beautiful. As if in a trance, I followed the sound of that voice and when I set my eyes on the source of that sound, my heart almost leapt from my heart. She was exquisite. I thought that maybe I had imagined her but here she was. I sagged against the doorframe as I took her in. She was shaped like an hourglass with her jeans showing off her curves in the right places. Her black shirt found a way to set off her tiny waist and the that hair. It looked like a silky waterfall cascading down her back. She moved from place to place gracefully with her fingers working nimbly cutting up vegetables. Thin long fingers. I sighed as I imagined them on me wrapped around....
"Oh hello," she said suddenly ripping me out of my fantasy. My breathe caught in my throat. She was beautiful. I simply couldn't look away. I shook my head as I tried to get my reasoning back to normal. I didn't even know her. She might have been an assassin for all I knew.
"Hello," I replied. She gave me a smile that knocked the breathe out of me. I closed my eyes as I tried to collect my thoughts
"Are you feeling ok?" she asked sounding closer. I opened my eyes to find her big grey eyes right in front of me clouded with concern.
"Yeah, I'm ok, I guess," I managed to say . She then suddenly took my arm and pulled me to a chair where she made me sit.
"You look as if you need a nice hot meal," she said as she patted my hair like a little boy. With that, she went back to her business, humming softly to herself. The energy around her amazed me. Just where did she come from? I heard her laugh and realized I had spoken aloud. I went pink with embarrassment as she turned to face me again.
" I didn't drop from heaven as many like to presume I do," she said with a grin. I couldn't find anything in my vocabulary to reply to that so I just sat there and looked at her stupidly. She laughed again and bent to retrieve plates. She set the table and soon enough she placed a plate of steaming food before me. It smelt wonderful. I didn't know what it was and honestly, I didn't care. I wouldn't have minded even if it had been bird s**t. She sat across me and wordlessly bowed her head and started praying for the food. I felt foolish as my spoon was halfway to my mouth by then. I slowly put my spoon down and waited until she had finished. When I saw her take up her spoon, I took mine too and started gobbling down the food.
"This is good," I said in between mouthfuls.
"I'm glad you like it," she replied smiling. She ate delicately putting small amounts of food In her mouth and chewing slowly. We ate in comfortable silence and once we were done, she cleared away the plates and washed the dishes. With my belly full and the room warm, I was just about ready to doze off.
"Now tell me. Who are you?" her voice snapped me out of my drowsy haze.
"Well, My name is......" I found I couldn't remember my name. How was that even possible? I thought hard but still my name didn't surface. I tried remembering anything else about myself but I drew a blank card. My breath hitched as panic set on. How could I not remember anything? My family, my friends, my possessions. All gone! Did I even have a girlfriend? The world started spinning as more questions bombarded my brain. Suddenly, a sharp pain blossomed in my head making me see stars. I groaned in pain.
"Hey, hey. Its alright. Now come back to me. Just listen to my voice," a sweet voice broke through the fog. I focused on the voice and slowly the world came to a stop. I opened my eyes and found her kneeling in front of me. Her thumb touched my cheeks as she wiped something of my face. Wait, were those tears? I looked at her in confusion.
"Its alright. It can wait," she said softly. I could see the worry in her eyes.
"Its not alright," I whispered.
"Come on, lets get you to bed."
She led me back to my room and I got into bed.
"Don't you worry. as I said before, we will figure this out. Now sleep. Goodnight"
She left the room. I wanted to believe her but I just couldn't.
