CHAPTER THREE: THE ONE
RORY'S POV.
The door creaked open, and I felt an overwhelming urge to scream. I desperately wished my sister was there to save me. Without my wolf, I was powerless. The spell had probably been broken by now, and there was no one to rescue me.
Just as fear began to consume me, a sudden calmness washed over me. The terror I felt vanished, replaced by an inexplicable sense of serenity. Someone was approaching, and their strong scent drew me in. I felt an irresistible magnetic force pulling me toward this person, as if I needed their touch.
"Y-you..." His voice was heavenly, a gentle whisper that sent shivers down my spine. I felt his hands on my waist, his breath on the back of my neck. The sensation was intoxicating, and I couldn't help but lean into his touch.
"Can you feel it?" he asked, his voice soothing. "You are the one." His lips grazed my neck, sending chills through my body. His hands rested just below my breasts, and I felt a flutter in my chest.
Could this be my mate? The thought sent a thrill through me, but I couldn't shake off the uncertainty.
"Let's go home," he whispered, torn between pushing him away and drawing him closer. The feeling was indescribable, a mix of emotions that left me breathless.
"Home?" I muttered, trying to clear my foggy mind.
"Yes, please," he replied, his voice calm and reassuring. His lips still touched my neck, his breathing slow and steady.
As I stood there, entranced, I felt sensations swirling around me. "Loose me," I whispered, referring to the ropes binding my hands.
With strong, gentle hands, he freed me from the restraints. I wondered if he was a werewolf, but before I could ask, I turned to face him. The room was dark, and I could barely make out his features.
"Come with me," he said, his voice low and husky. "Let's rule the hybrids together, let's..."
"Hybrids?!" I exclaimed, snapping out of my trance-like state. The same hybrids who had taken my mother? I felt a surge of anger and fear, and my mind began to race with questions.
"I am an alpha," he began, but I cut him off, my emotions boiling over.
There was no way I could feel this connection with someone responsible for my mother's disappearance. I took a step back, creating distance between us. He tried to close the gap, but I warned him off.
"Don't come any closer!" I commanded, my eyes flashing with anger.
He halted, his gaze locked on mine. I couldn't understand why the universe would pair me with a hybrid alpha, rather than a werewolf. It seemed cruel, another twist of fate.
"Where is my mother?" I screamed, my fists clenched. I longed to strike him, but he was stronger, more powerful.
"Who are you?" he asked, his voice still calm and soothing, sending shivers down my spine.
I wasn't surprised by his question. Elara had told me that mates rarely knew each other beforehand. The universe chose your mate, and fate brought you together. It was an ancient, unyielding tradition.
Before I could respond, Ayla's desperate cry echoed in my mind through our mind link.
'Ro! I need you!' Her panic was intense, and I felt my own anxiety spike.
"My sister needs me," I exclaimed, dashing out of the room. With the spell broken and no omegas in sight, I sprinted through the hallway. The once-familiar corridors were now a scene of bloodshed. Dead werewolves lay scattered, their blood pooling on the floor. The air reeked of death and vampire venom. I caught glimpses of vicious bite wounds, evidence of the hybrids' brutal attack.
As I emerged into the night air, chaos greeted me. The hybrids, with their ability to shift between vampire and wolf forms, were relentless. Their poisonous bites made them formidable opponents. My heart racing, I scanned the battlefield for Ayla.
I spotted her, battling a hybrid in her human form. Her fingers had transformed into wolf-like claws, a testament to her newfound powers. But she was still learning to control them, and fear gripped me. I couldn't lose my sister, my only family.
Before I could react, the Alpha - my mate - sprinted past me, racing toward my sister. "Jenks!" he screamed at the hybrid battling Ayla. In a flash, he sank his long fangs into my sister's neck. The hybrid's vampire bite was notorious for its deadly venom, which could kill a werewolf if they weren't strong enough.
The scene unfolding before me ignited a fury I'd never felt before. That was my sister, my only sister. My body began to shift, my bones cracking as my hands transformed into wolf-like claws. Tears streamed down my face as I felt the transformation taking hold.
But something was different. In the dark of night, my fur shone brighter, a radiant white. I was the White Wolf, a legendary creature feared and revered in equal measure. The air was filled with screams and panicked shouts as the onlookers realized what I had become.
"She's the White Wolf! The One!" someone cried out, their voice trembling with fear.
My heart seethed with anger, my every thought focused on avenging my sister. I would choose her over anyone, even my mate. Fully transformed now, I felt an indescribable energy coursing through my veins. With a fierce snarl, I launched myself at the Alpha, my mate, who had bitten my sister.
My wolf-like hands swiped at his neck, sending him crashing to the corner. As I stood over him, my gaze fell upon my sister, who lay motionless on the ground. Her eyes, though, were open, and she smiled weakly at me.
Before I could search for Elijah, who should have been protecting my sister, a metal object struck me with incredible force. I felt my body crumbling, my heart shutting down, and my entire being in a fiery agony.
This... this felt like death.
