Daisy Jenkins' POV
You’re fired.”My heart nearly stopped.
Mr. Alexander Grayson tossed a file onto his desk, his icy blue eyes fixed on me.
“Tell me why I shouldn’t fire you.”
I’d only been his assistant for three weeks, and somehow I’d already managed to become the one person he couldn’t stand.
“Sir...” I stuttered, I was confused “Sir...”
My voice came out as barely a whisper. “I... I don’t understand.”
“You don’t?” He leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable.
“The emails to our investors were sent two days late. And you’ve been distracted all morning. Do you think I pay you to daydream?”
My fingers tightened around the folder in my hands.
He was right. I had been distracted.
But not because I didn’t care about my job.
My younger brother was lying in a hospital bed, fighting for his life, and the doctors had given me only five days to find eighty thousand dollars for his surgery.
Losing this job wasn’t an option.
“I’m really sorry Sir, a lot has been going on but I promise it won’t get distracted again,” I pleaded
He studied me for a long moment, his expression unreadable.
“Do you know how much that mistake could have cost this company?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“No, you don’t.” He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “You’re lucky this is your first major mistake.”
My heart pounded as I waited for his verdict.
“I’m not firing you.”
I let out a shaky breath.
“But this is your first and last warning, Daisy.
The next time your personal life affects your work, don’t bother coming back.”
“Thank you, Sir. I promise it won’t happen again.”
“Promises don’t interest me.” He picked up another file without looking at me. “Results do. Now get back to work.”
“Thank you Sir, thank you so much Sir, I promise I won’t let you down,” I said grateful that he let me keep my job
His hard glare made me practically run out of his office.
I went to my office and started my work trying to be as precise as possible.
I received a text from my best friend, Jessica.
“Drinks at your place?”
“For sure, I texted back”.
I knocked softly on Mr Alexander’s door, “come in,” he said.
“Sir, I’ve set up the meeting with Mr Frank and I want to remind you that you have a board meeting in the next 20 mins, these are the documents,” I say handing the documents to him.
“Have you set up the meeting room?”
“Yes Sir,” I answer with my hands behind my back.
He stared at me for a few seconds, “Good, thank you,” he said.
“Oh my gosh,” he commended me, for the few weeks I’ve worked with my boss, he has never smiled, has never commended anyone before, so that’s why this came as a shock to me.
Mr Alexander Grayson is like the richest billionaire, he’s not only rich but hot, Jesus forgive me and he’s single, like there’s never been any dating rumour about him.
People think he’s gay or..... infertile, what do I think? Nothing, I just don’t want to get fired.
That day went as usual and I was more than happy to go home.
Before I went home, I decided to inform my boss I was leaving.
“Sir, I’ll be going home now,”.
“Okay, make sure you’re early tomorrow,” he said.
“Yes Sir,” I said and left his office.
I reached home and Jessica was already in my house, she has a spare key to my house and I have a spare for hers.
“Jessie, you’re here so early”.
“Yeah, I closed early today,” She said.
Jessie has her own flower shop, we’ve been friends since high school.
She couldn’t go to college because her mum didn’t have enough to see her through school and her dad didn’t even care.
I, on the other hand went to college and I felt bad I couldn’t help her, so when she said she wanted to open a flower shop, I supported her with the little I had then.
And now, her shop is big and it’s successful, I’m so happy for her.
“I ordered pizza for us, your favourite,” She said.
“Thanks, I love you”.
“Whatever,” She said rolling her eyes.
“Jess guess what,” I said as I crashed on the couch
“What?” She asked sitting next to me eager to hear the gist.
“I got fired,” I said
“What!” She exclaimed as she immediately stood up.
“Relaxx,” I said dragging her back to sit down.
“I apologized and begged him and he decided to pardon me”.
“Oh phew, Thank God,” She said relaxed.
“I’ve been so distracted at work that I nearly cost us a lot of losses, I’ve just been thinking about Jay and everything”.
“I’m so tired, I hate my job, I dislike my boss, I don’t have money to pay for Jay’s surgery and he might die,” I sobbed, tears rolling down my cheeks.
Jess turned me to herself and hugged me.
“Daisyy, don’t say that, we’ll find a way to get the money for Jay and he won’t die, and when Jay’s finally okay, you can quit and get another job,” She said cleaning my tears.
“I miss my dad and my mummy,” I said sobbing even more.
“Aww, me too Daisy, but they’re in a better place and I know they’re definitely proud of you”.
“Jay and I are here for you, I’m here for you, you’re not alone Daisy, everything would be fine,” She reassured me.
“Okayy,” I said sniffing, by now I was resting my head on her shoulders.
“Yea, so cheer up, and freshen up, then we’ll eat”.
“Okay, thank you,” I said grateful that I had her in my life.
“It’s fine, I never want to see you sad,” She said smiling and I smiled back.
I went to my room, and took my bath, I wore shorts and a tank top and came back to the living room.
We sat on the floor and ate our dinner.
I was still feeling a little sad, “are you still sad?” She asked and I just averted my sad eyes.
“Okay, stand up,” She ordered.
“Huh”.
She dragged me to my feet and played let’s kill this love by black pink.
“Let’s dance it out,” She said warming up to dance and I laughed.
We sang the song on top of our lungs like we could relate.
