8. Getting Ready

Felicity POV: I knew I was breaking some rules bringing Francis onto the Daughters;’ grounds but since I was the Mother I guess I could break some rules. For the last five days I have learnt so much about him and it surprised me how much we are actually alike. We spent 25 years apart and we were both hot heads who liked violence. I trained my whole life for the position I had and same for him, he went to extensive schools to train. In his spare time he would box and help local charities.   I needed to call Margaret and Ophelia to tell me what has happened 25 years ago, I needed to know if they were aware that I was a twin. Margaret called the witch when I was younger, so the same witch must have been used to curse Francis. Margaret was my mother’s best friend and Ophelia never left my mother alone, she was her blood sister. I called to meet them both and now they were sitting in my office trying to catch up on the missed time.   “Can I ask you something” I paused their conversation. “Of course Mother” my aunt Ophelia replied. “Where was I born? Was it here or was it at a hospital? It’s just that I have never seen my birth certificate so I was just curious”.   Ophelia face dropped but she didn’t give anything away, if anything she was confused. She didn’t even know what was about to happen.   “You were born in Queen Elizabeth’s hospital, your mother was adamant that you were born in a hospital” Ophelia answered. “Was anyone there with her?” “No, she refused to take anyone. She wanted to do it on her own. It took over 12 hours but when they finally allowed us to see you, you were perfect...” Margaret started to talk before I put my hand up shutting her. “I have something, or someone to show you” I went to the adjacent room to my office and nodded to Francis to come in.   I walked back into my office and I knew that they were not expecting a man to follow behind me. They must have thought it was Kilian but as soon as they saw his eyes they both stood up. “Is that?” Ophelia questioned. “No it is not Damien.... this is Francis” I pointed to him. “So I will ask you again, was anyone there with her?” “Mother you have to listen, we were not allowed in and I have always wondered why. Now I know she must have given birth to ... Francis and gave him away. She took you in and was allowed to serve Sarah” Margaret blurted out.   I was surprised that Francis didn’t react to that information, he just found out that our mother gave him away and he wasn’t bothered, he was smiling instead. I felt like he went insane as he started laughing.   “You know what that means... sis?” “What?” I raised my eyebrow. “I’m older than you” I bumped my shoulder with his. “You’re my younger sister” “Margaret, I need to find me a witch, stat!”   Two days later Margit had found me a witch who agreed to cover my identity she was dressed in all black and smelled of wildflowers. I knew she was an earth witch as soon as I saw her, her green eyes gave her away. “This bracelet will give you 24 hours to look like another person. As long as you wear it, no one will know except your mate” she explained “I don’t have a mate” Kilian wouldn’t know it was me, he would recognise Francis but he wouldn’t have the slightest clue. “Perfect so who do you want to look like? I will need a strand of their hair to put into the bracelet” she looked around the room at my Daughters for volunteers. “I can’t look like you Poppy, we beat half of Marble to a peach last time we were there and Violet saw you in the room. Lily it will have to be you” I looked at my Daughter who seemed shocked by what I said. “What’s wrong?” “No... Nothing, I just don’t think it’s a good idea that’s all, some people might remember me” she looked down on the floor and was avoiding my gaze, she was clearly lying. “It will be fine, can I please look like you?” I asked.   Lily cut of a piece of her hair and gave it to the witch, after a few minutes and a spell I put the bracelet on. I didn’t feel any different but everyone else looked confused. I looked own and I saw mousy blonde hair, it worked!   “Right I better get ready” I went to my room and looked for a dress that would go with my new look. I was used to carrying armour and swords for the last four years, I didn’t remember the last time I wore makeup. I chose a light blue dress with long sleeves to cover my runes. That was one thing that did not change, I had the most runes from my missions and people would know straight away that I was the Mother. “Ready to go?” Francis popped his head in to my room. He was wearing a two piece suit without a tie and his new hair cut was a lot shorter than a week ago. “Okay before we go I need to tell you something about unmated she-wolves. They are mental, I mean they will climb you like a tree. Francis you have to promise me that you will not go after them. We are there to find your mate and only her. Also why are you wearing a suit now? You have a 10 hour drive in front of you. I booked us two rooms in the nearby hotel so we can stay the night before driving back here the next day”. “Are you giving me the little sister speech right now? And I’ll go and change” he crossed his arms in front of his chest. “I’ll wait for you in the car” I put my trainers on and took my heels in my hands.   After 10 hours and a stop of at the hotel we were on out way to Marble. Francis was clutching onto the steering wheels and I could tell he was getting anxious.   “It will be fine, you might get a headache from all the wolves around you but you need to focus on a particular smell” I started to fidget with my thumbs as I looked out the window. “You should take your own advice sis, it will be fine you might actually talk to him tonight” he started to tease me about Kilian. “I look like Lily I don’t think he even remembers her” I shrugged his comments off.   We’re home Estrid purred This is not home, we are here for Francis. Let’s go for a run! There’s not time for that   As we pulled into Marble I was shocked by the number of different smells in the air, single males and females from the neighbouring packs. They all looked at me as I was an outsider, I forgot that I smelled like a human, like Lily. I had to take my swords out to show that I was a Daughter and that I belonged in this world, I knew who they were.   “You go in first, I’ll go in after you. I don’t want people to think we are together, reduces your chances” I sniggered. “In this suit? Nothing can reduce my chances” he patted himself down and walked into the Estate.   I looked at the place that used to be my home, the place I yearned for when I was alone, when I missed Kilian’s touch. I looked up at the widows to my old bedroom and I found a woman staring at me. I have never seen her before but I was surprised by her eyes, they were purple. She didn’t know who I was, she saw Lily.
