22. Back at the Palace

3 hours later

“You know you could have just flown from New Orleans to New York you didn’t have to stop off to pick me up” Francis said as we drove on the highway.

“Do you want me to turn back? I thought you wanted to see Naomi again” I snapped back.

“Am I the only reason you came tonight or is it the fact that you wanted my sister? I heard what you said and seeing Cassidy … well that mustn’t  have been easy”.

I gripped my steering wheel at the thought of leaving my innocent daughter behind, but I couldn’t kidnap her. Bane whimpered at the thought of not seeing his pup again.

“You knew?” I asked.

“As soon as I saw her she smiled at me and kept starring. It must have been my eyes. She said I stole them from her and tried to scratch them out. When I told her who I was I felt my own chest purring as she hugged me. She mind linked me later that night. I didn’t have to ask Felicity, I knew who she was”.

I felt a stone in my throat and my mouth getting dry, I was scared that I would never have a relationship with my daughter. I wouldn’t be a father to her and I would never be able to protect her I  had to change the subject.

“When we get there, you can’t shift. They have lost a lot of power and support in the last few years. When they find out who you are they will want you on their side. Just say that you are Lucas’ Beta and you are there to represent him. I will go and sign some territorial papers and that will give you a chance to look for her”.

“Why do you need to go there? Can’t Stonecross be your sister back without the paperwork?” I knew what he meant. We were no longer under the Elder rule, but they kept the law, if something needed to be officiated we still had to go through the traditional routes.

“They keep the territorial contracts and Stonecross having the official title will notify other Packs not to attack Lucas’ Pack”.

We pulled into the drive and I felt immediate shivers down my spine. The Elders were nothing but evil, they had a few tricks up their sleeves and would not hesitate to use them today. They were trying to do everything to get the wolves back on their side. They have succeeded with some as they were only small packs. Maybe that was what they were doing with Dark Shade, they would take Alex’s strongest warriors and then provide help when he needed it the most.

We were expected as we were welcomed by one of lower Elders. He wore a hood over his head and waited for us at the front door of the Palace.

“Alpha Castor, we thought you would come by yourself” he turned towards Francis who let out a soft growl. Even without meeting them, his wolf could tell they were the enemy.

“He is a representative of my sister pack. He is here with me”.

“Very well then, gentlemen follow me. This should not take long”.

As we followed him into the palace I noticed that they have doubled up on the guards . They carried more weapons and had new armour. Men and women dressed in all black stood in all corners of the corridor. Silver swords dipped in wolfsbane, Bane was dying to come out and rip their throats but I had to be civil and keep him down. The High Elders office did not change, stacks of paper were piled on the desk as well as old books lined his walls.

“Alpha Castor what a pleasure” he said sarcastically. “And who may you be?” he turned towards Francis pulling his hand out for him to shake it.

“My name is Levi and I am a representative of the Stonecross Pack” he lied through his teeth.

“Alpha if I may, I would like to discuss your marriage today as well. I heard Marble is getting a new Luna. I’m guessing the Royal is out of the picture. No Elder has seen her in over 4 years” I saw his lip curl up in the corner. He knew how much hearing her name pained me.

“Her name was Felicity” I thought it would be wise to speak in past tense as they must have assumed she was dead. “But I can talk about my engagement privately?” I needed Francis to find Naomi.

“Guard!” the High Elder shouted and soon after his office door opened. I didn’t have to guess who walked in as Francis’ whole body froze. Luck would have it, it was Naomi dressed in all black, I guess he didn’t have to look far. “Take this gentleman and give him a tour of the Palace. Me and Alpha have a lot of things to discuss”.

She didn’t’ say anything just nodded her head and turned away from us. Francis follow like a lost puppy. 

Francis POV 

I didn’t believe in the theist beliefs of the wolves, but in that moment I was thanking the Moon Goddess for making Naomi the High Elder’s guard. I followed a few steps behind as I took her scent in and watched as she walked up slowly, each curve moving to the side. She was made by the Goddess herself, her blonde hair pulled tightly in a ponytail.

I wanted to be with her, I didn’t even know her but I knew this is where she belonged, with me. There were guards at every corner, every corridor we took I would be met with guards holding onto swords. I sped up and walked beside her in silence. Our hands brushed gently and I felt my whole body being electrified. Naomi released a small gasp and I knew she felt the same.

She suddenly walked ahead and turned into one of the rooms. Walking in I realised we were in the Elder’s library and alone. As I took the room in I noticed that most of the books were chained up. They were separated by species and by a time period. Every pack, every order and every clan had its history rooted here. My eyes settled on Naomi who was standing in the middle, she didn’t want to turn around and face me.

I walked up slowly and ran my fingers up her arms, my heart started to beat faster and the mate bond pulled me towards her. With my right hand I moved her hair from her shoulder and exposed her neck to my lips. I pulled her towards me so out bodies would melt into one.

“I missed you” I said biting her ear lobe. She reacted just like I suspected, she pushed the back of her head into my shoulder.

“We can’t do this” she said softly.

My hands made their way to the front of her abdomen and wrapped around it pulling her in closer. She must have felt how aroused I was.

“Is that why you led me here” I kissed her neck gently. “To a private library, where no one would see us?” I travelled from her neck to her shoulder. “Where no one would hear us, hear you scream?” I heard her release a small moan again.

Twirling her round quickly I saw that she had black eyes. I may have not known much about wolves but this was obvious, she was aroused by this and needed more. An overwhelming smell of roses appeared in front of me and I knew she was wet for me.

“Tell me how you feel?” I asked.

“What kind of a question is that Francis?” she pushed back and started to rub her arms. “I can’t stop thinking about you. I have waited for you my whole life and then you appear they day I get sworn in. Since meeting you I can’t imagine my life without you. Every day I wake up I want to run away and see you, touch you and feel you. The worst thing is, I don’t even know you” she started panting.

“Isn’t that a good thing ? We can get to know each other and fall in love again and again and again” I said as I approached her.

“That’s if we survive what’s about to happen?”  she pointed out.

“And what is that?”

“War”
