Chapter 2

Amberlynn's Pov

It has been a little over a week since my mom dropped life-altering news. At first, I was not on board with the entire idea of moving my life across the country with a man I had never met before. My mom invited him over so I could meet him and get to know him. He seemed like a nice guy. He did not make me feel left out, always trying to include me in anything they were doing. We talked about the area he lived in, what schools were around that would allow me to chase my dreams. I told him I wanted to play hockey. He did not even bat an eye or tell me it was a stupid idea for me to have, like countless people have in the past. I have learned that he has three sons of his own. He has a son, that is 24 years old and twins who are the age of 20. The twins are going to the same university as I am. His older son is going to be my assistant coach if I make the team. He was a little shocked when I told him I was in the same grade as his two sons; I explained I had taken extra online college classes so I could graduate early. Now it is time for me to leave my old life behind and start my new life.

“Mom, when are we leaving again? I want to make sure that I have everything I will need. I do not want the mistake and leave any of my stuff behind.”

“Hey sweetie, our plane will be ready to leave tomorrow morning, but if you forget anything, we can always get what you need there; we don’t need to weigh down the plane with your entire room.” She looks at me, chuckling lightly.

“I know, Mom, but I have things that are irreplaceable; my wonderful memories that are just too precious to leave behind. I would never forgive myself if I did; you know how I get about certain things, especially that is from my dad.” She gives a small, sad frown. Damn it! I knew I should never have said anything like that to her. Now she is going to be sad. Ugh! “I am sorry, Mom, I did not think before I said it. I know you still miss him, but we are going to get through this together; I love you, and I will be with you every step of the way.” I lean over and give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She returns my embrace and kisses the top of my head. Now it is time to start a new chapter in my life with my mom.

Gunner's Pov

My dad called me and my two younger brothers into his office about a week ago, telling us he is moving a woman and her daughter into our house. We did not know what to do with this information, so of course I tried digging a little into their backgrounds. I did not want my father to be taken advantage of. I did not really have any luck finding anything. The mom is an event planner who travels a lot for work. The daughter seems like she is a smart girl; she took extra online college classes and will be in the same grade as the twins, she also is an ice hockey player at her old school, and she is going to be trying out for the team that I will be assisting this year.

“Hey Gunnar, did you find anything about them?” Foster asked.

“No, not really, just the mom is an event planner, and the daughter is smart, and she is trying out for the girl’s hockey team. I found nothing that would raise red flags. We are just going to need to watch them when they get here, do not want them taking advantage of our dad or us. We have seen it happen too many times to us and other people around us.” Forest nods but adds:

“Yes, I know, you have taught us about how to read people and their intentions, but someone taught you, Sawyer, and me that not everyone in this world has bad intentions either. I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt, and not jump to conclusions, because we all know we would not want it to happen to us either.” Both Gunnar and Sawyer nod their heads in acknowledgement. But of course; leave it to my twin to say something crazy.

“Do you think the daughter is hot? Especially when she is skating around the ice rink. Getting all sweaty and hot under all that gear? I can just about ima...” Ouch. I just smacked Sawyer upside the head. Foster bursts out laughing at his twin.

“What is wrong with you? I swear it is like you never went through puberty or just never matured; I do not know which one it is, but I think you should rein yourself in. You think she wants you sniffing around her as soon as she gets here, I honestly do not think she does, but be my guess she might have a restraining order on you so fast it is going to make your spin.” Foster and I just bust out laughing at my lil’ brothers face. He looks like he sucked on a lemon or something.

“Fine, we will just see how it goes; no need to get y’alls panties in a twist.” He says grumbling. We just look at him like he is crazy, but we love him, and that is all that matters.
