Sophie found Emma sitting alone in the Canadian Sanctuary's common room. Emma had barely spoken since arriving. Barely eaten. Just sat and waited for news about her parents.
"Want to hear a story?" Sophie asked.
Emma shrugged. "I guess."
Sophie sat beside her. "I am going to tell you about my parents. About how they died. And how I survived."
Emma looked at her friend. Sophie never talked about her parents. Never mentioned how she ended up in the Sanctuary.
"I was six years old," Sophie began. "My parents were both enhanced. Project Spring from Brazil. They could adapt to any environment. Survive anywhere."
"What happened to them?"
"The Division happened. They tracked us to our home in São Paulo. Came at night. Broke down our door. My parents fought back. Told me to run. To hide."
