The first thing Sarah saw when she left the medical room was people.
Dozens of them. Moving through the underground cavern like it was a normal city street. Some carried equipment. Others trained in a makeshift gym. Children played in a corner while adults watched.
All of them enhanced. All of them hiding from the world above.
"This is the Sanctuary," Francis said beside her. "Home for forty-three enhanced individuals and their families."
Sarah stared. The cavern was massive, carved from an old mine shaft and converted into living space. Metal stairs led to different levels. Rooms built into the rock walls. Computer stations glowing in one corner. A cafeteria area in another.
