Lily had hit the wrong nerve.
She had insulted, right in front of Lucas, the woman he loved most and could never have.

The story about Lorenzo hitting Anna had been fabricated.
Lucas, however, had truly raised his hand.
Heather came out holding a fruit tray and froze at the sight. In her panic, she nearly stumbled. Anna reacted instantly and caught her.
“Careful.”
Heather was too flustered to thank her. She shoved the tray into Anna’s hands and rushed forward to grab her son.
“What are you doing, hitting someone?”
Lucas liked to play around, but he had never laid a hand on a woman. That was completely ungentlemanly.
She restrained him, then quickly helped Lily up from the ground.
